Gamers Show More Interest In The Next PlayStation & Xbox Over Wii U: Dislike Motion Controls

Source: News | 18 May 2012 | 12:52 am

I’ll be honest, one reason I refrain from visiting IGN is because most of their readers are fanboys of the Xbox and PlayStation and see nothing but failure for Nintendo, this is heavily expressed in IGN’s recent polls. With IGN’s 1st poll, readers were asked about their opinions on motion controls in gaming. Most were disinterested in motion controls stating that motion controls have no interesting software, opting to use traditional controls.

The 2nd poll was conducted by IGN and received 62,000 votes listing that most readers were looking forward to the next Xbox and PlayStation with the Wii U only containing 2/3rds of the same interest. Others were interested in a console from Valve and Apple while a meager 10% wanted a unified Cloud based system.

Zelda Medley Featuring Banjo Player and More

Source: News | 17 May 2012 | 11:25 pm

Youtube Mirror

I’m not usually a big fan of banjo music, but this is actually pretty good. The medley, performed by Michigan bluegrass group Frontier Ruckus, features classic Zelda songs, such as the Fairy’s Fountain Theme, in an imaginative way featuring a banjo, a melodica, and…a saw. That’s right, that first instrument (not the banjo) is a common household saw. How he learned to play it, I have no clue, but it sounds amazing.

Listening to stuff like this makes me want to do my own medley more and more. Just think of Zelda jazz…but I digress. Be sure to check out the video above and show some love to Frontier Ruckus.

Lately we’ve had a huge influx of Zelda metal covers. Metal covers for almost everything Zelda. This new medley is a breath of fresh air! It’s none other than bluegrass, a genre many people tend to shy away from. However, we think you will enjoy this one! It features the banjo and other bluegrass and non-bluegrass instruments.

Super Mario Bros. Film Sees Multiple Re-Screenings With Attending Cast Members

Source: News | 17 May 2012 | 8:11 pm

Do you like bad movies based off video games? Then I have some good news! The Super Mario Bros. film that made its premiere back in 1993 is getting a scheduled re-release in select theaters across the states. Former cast & crew members are set to appear at the event, watch the film, and discuss the film’s development while a memorabilia will be held in honor of the films 20th Anniversary for next year.

Whether or not Bob Hoskins will attend, we do not know but it is doubtful given his disgust and regret for the film. The first two re-screenings at the Sunshine Cinema in New York City have passed but you can still attend the last three in Los Angeles, Wilmington, and Seattle.

Ubisoft: The Wii U Can Be A Great Success

Source: News | 17 May 2012 | 7:33 pm

Ubisoft has placed a lot of faith in the Wii U and with good reason, even going as far as developing over 7 titles for the console. Ubisoft has recently stated that Nintendo’s upcoming home console can see great success in its future. At Ubisoft’s Q&A segment of their annual earnings call, when asked about the Wii U, Ubisoft CEO Ybes Guillemot gave the following answer.

“We have been extremely happy with the functionality of the console and the use, what is really interesting is the fact that we have this tablet that allows us to bring totally new gameplay, and also brings the possibility to have a lot more social functionalities, because you can have now a screen to play asynchronously with your friends, to receive challenges and to really have a screen to communicate with your friends. That is going to help tremendously the experience in video games.”

Wii U RUMORS from E3 2011 and 2012

Source: News | 17 May 2012 | 6:23 pm

Wii U Ah, the pre-E3 weeks are always so full of rumors, and this year is no different. This batch of rumors not only concerns this year’s presentation, however; there are several rumors about last year’s conference as well.

According to reports, the Wii U units used at E3 2011 did not house optical drives and may have been nothing more than empty cases for show. Rumor has it that the real power came from developer kits behind the TVs with software contained on encrypted SD cards.

There’s the rumors for last year, but I know you’re eager for this year’s, right? You’ll have to come inside to see!

Postal Service troubles and the liberal left (way left) view of reality.

Source: zeldalegacy.net | 17 May 2012 | 5:51 pm

The following is contained in a letter from Sen Bernard Sanders to the editor of the Wall Street Journal May 10th.

The Journal ignores the most important reason for the Postal Service’s financial troubles: a .5 billion annual mandate to pre-fund 75 years of future retiree health benefits in just 10 years. This onerous requirement, unmatched by any entity in the private sector or government, is responsible for more than 80% of the Postal Service’s debt. But for this prefunding mandate, the Postal Service would have posted a profit of 0 million from 2007-2010 and a 0 million profit in the first quarter of this fiscal year. The Senate-passed bill effectively resolves that issue. It also addresses the reality that the Postal Service overpaid billion into the Federal Employees Retirement System.

Early retirement looks pretty good.

While this is technically correct in terms of accounting, it misses the point. We should be concerned why there is such a large liability, not how to manipulate or eliminate the funding which is exactly what got many states in trouble. Various bills in Congress want to waive the retiree medical funding requirement. How’s that for solving a problem? The liabilities exist even if they are not funded even as the USPS continues its financial decline.

The USPS lost 6 million in the period ending March 31, 2012 excluding the funding for retiree medical benefits alluded to by Senator Sanders.

Now consider these facts reported on Bloomberg Business Week:

  • The postal service wants to reduce payroll by 20%, but union contracts prohibit layoffs.
  • 80% of post offices lose money.
  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the average hourly compensation for a postal worker is vs in the private sector.
  • 80% of the USPS budget goes to employee salaries and benefits compared with 43% for FedEx.
  • The last union contract provided for a 3.5% pay increase over the contract period plus seven uncapped cost of living increases.
  • Postal workers contribute 21% toward their health benefits versus 28% for most federal workers.
  • 79 percent of USPS total costs are the wages and benefits of its employees.

It short, it is the same old story of an unholy alliance between public unions and politicians. Even when postal service management attempts to solve it’s problems their actions are blocked by Members of Congress.

The King of the Red Lions is Real!

Source: News | 17 May 2012 | 2:32 pm

Well, almost real. While this fan creation of the King of the Red Lions from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker does physically exisit, it does not possess the soul of a long-forgotten Hylian king, nor is it sea-worthy.

In fact, it isn’t a boat at all, but large-scale papercraft that happens to be on a beach.

Rayman Origins Gets a Release Date; Plus New Trailer and Gameplay Footage

Source: News | 17 May 2012 | 2:11 pm

In addition to the new Rayman Origins demo, which I am currently waiting for my Nintendo 3DS to hurry up and finish downloading as I type this, that was released this morning through the eShop, there is even more exciting news today regarding the upcoming title.

Ubisoft has also released a new trailer for the game, along with some new gameplay footage of the demo. Furthermore, they’ve announced that the game will be released on June 5th in North America, and they’ve confirmed that it will retail for the reduced price of $29.99.

Lost Planet Offshoot Title Headed To Nintendo 3DS

Source: News | 17 May 2012 | 10:49 am

EX Troopers Coming To 3DS and PS3In the latest edition of Famitsu, we have learned that Capcom is working on a new Nintendo 3DS game that takes place within the Lost Planet universe.  Yeah, pretty awesome huh?  It is titled E.X. Troopers, and is an action game from Monster Hunter series producer Shintaro Kojima.  The images I have found on the game show a colorful cell shaded art style that is in development for both the Playstation 3 and Nintendo 3DS.

The game has a bit of school theme, and introduces characters by referring them as students and staff.  Bren is the main character, who came to the academy of EDN-3rd from EDN-2nd.  The game is reported to have a stage show at Capcom’s Summer Jam event at the end of June, so I hope to be able to have more about the game soon.

The main character is a boy with pink hair, so it’s obvious that he’s gonna do some real damage to his opponents.  Manly men wear pink, and when their hair is that color…just think of the possibilities.

I’ve included a few images, the link to the official site, and a trailer video after the jump. So Clickity Click!

Nintendo, Square Enix and NTT Are Teaming Up For Dragon Quest X

Source: News | 17 May 2012 | 10:26 am

Nintendo announced yesterday a partnership with Square Enix and NTT East and West Japan.  They hope to push sales of Dragon Quest X, Wii and NTT’s Flets Hikari internet service.

It doesn’t really affect those of us out of Japan, but it’s interesting to see Nintendo take this approach to promote the game.  Flets Hikari will be recommended internet service for Dragon Quest X, and each of the companies are taking a part in highlighting each other.  Flets Hikari Members Club members will be able to enter a drawing for a copy of DQX. 1,000 copies of the game will be given out through this drawing.

NTT and Nintendo currently jointly operate an internet connection support center for 3DS and Wii. This will also support connectivity for Dragon Quest X.  The press release is in Japanese, but we’ve gotten the gist of what they are doing.  Dragon Quest is a rather popular series, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it did well. I’m a fan of the games that have been localized over here.

Nintendo Download Update For May 17th

Source: News | 17 May 2012 | 10:16 am

Rayman Origins Demo Is Out Today!Earlier this week, I reported that a Rayman Origins demo is going to be hitting the Nintendo eShop. At that current time I only heard from Nintendo Europe of the demo, but it looks like both Europe and North America will be able to download the demo today! Europe is getting another treat as well with Kirby’s Dream Land 2, which was released on the Game Boy many years ago.  The first Kirby’s Dream Land is already available, and I just recently beat Kirby’s Adventure on my 3DS myself.  No worries though, North America.  We still get some Kirby love with Kirby’s Block Ball.

There is a full list with small descriptions of downloads after the jump, so you can clickity click and give em a quick scan. You never know what you will find…well, besides the stuff I already mentioned.

LEGO Zelda is one step closer to being real

Source: Zelda Universe - All the Zelda info you need. | 16 May 2012 | 4:49 pm

Yes, the wonderful building blocks many of us played with as kids: LEGOs. The Denmark company is known for both its original ideas using LEGOs, such as Bionicle, and its other series, such as Star Wars and Harry Potter. Now, the company is considering recreating Zelda in LEGO form.

Hit the jump to see more.

10,000 people on the internet have signed a “petition” to bring Zelda in the LEGO world. This entire project was spearheaded by Michael Inglis, a British LEGO fanatic who has created several stop motion animations using his large LEGO collection. Nintendo Life recently interviewed him on his progress, and here’s some of what he had to say.

NL: When you set up your project for The Legend of Zelda last year, what made you choose that particular Nintendo franchise?

MI: The Legend of Zelda was introduced to me at such a young age. It’s basically been a part of my growing up. I invested hundreds of hours into Ocarina of Time as a child and gained a massive appreciation for the series. Being unable to read when I first played it, the scripted narrative of the game went completely unnoticed, so what I was actually doing was left only to my imagination. This initial impression of the game, I feel, was so overwhelming that every other game I’ve played has been compared to this experience and has fallen short.

NL: Initially you covered the franchise in general, but responded to LEGO feedback with a scene from the Ocarina of Time finale: why did you choose that particular example?

MI: As I’ve previously mentioned, Ocarina of Time was extremely impactful on my perspective on the series as a whole. The main intention for the set was to include all three characters. In Ocarina of Time, this, I believe is the first moment all three characters are together in adult form. Whilst the finales of newer Zelda games are far bigger and considered to be more ‘epic’, I feel they move focus away from the primary objective — saving the princess. In my own opinion I would comment that Ocarina of Time’s finale harnesses the ‘saving the princess’ concept in its purest form. As Link is charging up the seemingly endless stairs, the organ music gets louder, the suspense builds and we are met with a helpless princess which the hero has to save. There are no distractions, no other objectives. This moment, I feel, brings out what the series is really about.

In addition, during the interview, he said that his favorite game is Majora’s Mask. In addition, he has no real preference over 2D or 3D games, so we may be seeing him create bits from every game in LEGO form.

This is only a step towards LEGOs becoming reality. LEGO has accepted the idea, but are in negotiations with Nintendo to make it a reality. This may be difficult, but knowing Nintendo’s acceptance of K’Nex and Mega Bloks with Nintendo products, there is a good chance they will come to an agreement.

So what do you think of LEGO Zelda? Would you be interested in buying a set or two? Leave us your opinion in the comments below.

Attacks on Obamacare are attacks on women’s health and well-being.

Source: zeldalegacy.net | 16 May 2012 | 2:33 pm

The title of this blog post is taken from a call out statement contained in a report prepared by the Center for American Progress as is the quote below. This type of reporting, propaganda or whatever you want to call it represents the worst of politics. The intent is to further polarize Americans by segmenting this group or that and playing on elements of their self-interest.

A quick reading of the first paragraph below and some would conclude that 45 million women first obtained these services because of Obamacare [note how suddenly the President's supporters have adopted the once pejorative "Obamacare."]. The reality is that the 45 million who had such service, most of whom would have had them in any case, have gotten them for “free” and the “free” part is supposed to be a good thing. There probably is no need, but I can’t help but remind readers these services are not “free” at all and such claims are further evidence of either the naivety of proponents or simply their overwhelming desire to promote their agenda despite the facts.

And of course, we can’t forget the insurance industry abuses against women. Never miss an opportunity to take a shot at the scapegoat of choice.

Denial of coverage for “gender-related pre-existing conditions”…  as opposed to non-gender-related conditions? Has anyone ever stopped to ask why all these people women, men or otherwise waited until they had pre-existing conditions to apply for insurance?  Has anyone asked why children were prevented from coverage for pre-existing conditions when it was universally possible to enroll a newborn without such restrictions provided such enrollment occurred within a certain period?  Employer plans have always required a new child or spouse to be enrolled within a specific number of days or to wait until the next open enrollment period. Is that unreasonable to protect against gaming the system and to protect the employer and fellow workers against adverse selection costs? Oh wait, it does require the exercise of personal responsibility and we all know that is a no, no.

Thanks to Obamacare, more than 45 million women have already taken advantage of recommended preventive services, including mammograms, pap smears, prenatal care, well-baby care, and well-child care with no cost sharing such as co-pays and deductibles. Starting this August, millions more will be able to obtain contraception, annual well-woman care (a visit with a gynecologist), screening for gestational diabetes, breastfeeding counseling and supplies, and screening for sexually transmitted infections, including HIV and the Human papillomavirus—again at no extra cost.

In addition, women will no longer encounter discrimination in the health insurance market in the form of lost maternity coverage, higher premiums due to their gender, and denials of coverage for gender-related pre-existing conditions. Indeed, close to 9 million women will gain coverage for maternity care in the individual market starting in 2014. And provisions in the new health law that protect everyone will especially benefit women, who utilize the health care system the most.  In short, Obamacare will increase health insurance coverage for women, lower their health care costs, and end the worst insurance industry abuses against them.

Look past the rhetoric on both sides of the health care debate, look at the unintended consequences of the promises made. Consider the promises of “free.”

Music Wednesday: Water

Source: Zelda Universe - All the Zelda info you need. | 16 May 2012 | 2:16 pm

Hey, Universe! Welcome to another jaw-dropping, earth-shaking, mind blowing edition of Music Monday, on Wednesday! Today, we shine the Music Wednesday spotlight on one of my favourite places in the Zelda universe, and an amazing Zelda melody that is just pretty darn awesome.

Now, if you’ve been following Music Monday for a while, you’ll know I have a thing for Skyward Sword’s music, in particular, the location themes. I love Faron Woods. I also love Faron Woods when a crazy-blue-dragon-guy floods it and makes me swim around collecting tadpole that sing. It’s just all around fun times in the Faron Woods. First, there’s that amazing Zelda melody I was talking about earlier, that rocks, really, really hard. After that, to calm you down after the sheer awesomeness of the Zelda melody, the beautiful “Flooded Faron Woods Theme”. For both of those, hit the jump!

YouTuber SimonLoveridge is amazing, and that would be putting things mildly. I can’t even begin to imagine how much work he put into that video, but I’m sure glad he did. Sir, I salute you, and thank you for making such a fantastic medley!

I never get tired of the “Faron Woods Theme” but the flooded version is just so relaxing. I really don’t think the “Faron Woods Theme” gets enough credit in Skyward Sword for being so pretty. I really like the way they orchestrated the “Flooded Faron Woods Theme” especially with the marimba. It almost sounds a bit like the Faron Wood’s Silent Realm, with a calamity in it.

Thanks for reading, and make sure to check back next week for another Music Monday, on Monday!

Massachusetts seeks to cap growth in health care spending-it’s time to ask HOW

Source: zeldalegacy.net | 16 May 2012 | 12:54 am

Pending legislation in the Bay State would target the growth in health care spending to the growth in the Gross State Product (similar to national gross domestic product) give or take a little. The average currently is 3.6% annually.

This is a worthy goal, but waving a magic legislative wand does not make things happen. The Affordable Care Act attempts something similar using the Medicare Payment Advisory Board and many people are up in arms over what they see as a potential move toward rationing. Keep in mind that the growth in health care costs is not primarily caused by the increase in individual fees, but the growth in utilization and the type of utilization (more, and more complex, expensive tests).

In addition, providers must deal with reduced payments and new constraints from the federal government. This is especially true for hospitals.

So, to meet preset spending targets what has to happen? The most obviuous is that all providers must reach an optimum level of efficiency. However, beyond that the care that is provided must change. In other words, less care and less intensive care must be provided. If that means that patients receive better care, only necessary care and no more that’s great. On the other hand, in the unlikely event that is achieved but gross spending does not reach the target, then what?

We are back to the fundamental question applicable to all political solutions … how?

zelda how i met your mother cameo

How I Met Your Mother is currently my favorite television show on the air. I watch every episode when it goes online and this week the writers managed to make me enjoy my weekly fix even more. About 10.5 minutes into the season finale there was a Legend of Zelda cameo which really made me smile.

While Marshall is drunk and trying to use an ATM he hallucinates and sees a variety of video game and media references on the screen. One of these segments was a clip from the original Legend of Zelda game with Link fighting stalfos in a dungeon.

Did you happen to catch the reference? Know of any other zelda references on tv? Let us know in the comments.

Zelda fireplace art décor

Source: Zelda Universe - All the Zelda info you need. | 15 May 2012 | 5:30 pm

We all have one—a fireplace with an existence that is barely acknowledged, but serves as a focal point to our décor. Etsy user, JamesBit, has created a piece that will allow any boring, unused fireplace to become a nostalgic piece of art. The canvas measures 2′x2′ and features the 8-bit flame sprite from the original The Legend of Zelda. Costing potential buyers a hefty $11o USD, the piece doesn’t come as a cheap fix to a soot filled corner. Unfortunately, the fireplace art has been already sold; however, these DIY instructions explain how to recreate a similar piece from papier-mâché.

The A priori of health care-why ALL health care is unaffordable

Source: zeldalegacy.net | 14 May 2012 | 7:59 am

The following is from a recent article in Health Affairs.

Abstract

The pending Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act and the fall presidential election raise concerns about what would happen if the insurance expansion promised by the landmark health reform law were to be curtailed. This paper’s analysis of national survey estimates found that access to health care and use of health services for adults ages 19–64—the primary targets of the Affordable Care Act—deteriorated between 2000 and 2010, particularly among those who were uninsured. More than half of uninsured US adults did not see a doctor in 2010, and only slightly more than a quarter of these adults were seen by a dentist. We also found that children—many of whom qualify for public coverage through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program—generally maintained or improved their access to care during the same period. This provides a reason for optimism about the ability of the coverage expansion in the Affordable Care Act to improve access for adults, but it suggests that eliminating the law or curtailing the coverage expansion could result in continued erosion of adults’ access to care.

While I do not make light of the problems many people face who do not have health insurance, nor do I deny the need for expanded coverage, I find the basic assumption that virtually nobody can afford even modest health care intriguing. Look at the above abstract, could it be that half of the people in the group did not need to see a doctor or that they chose not to see a doctor or dentist for reason unrelated to their coverage status? Could it be that children received more care because much of the care was free or that children naturally use services more than twenty somethings?

I have written on this concept many times before, but I still find it fascinating and one of the reasons we may never truly solve the health care problem even if we evolve to a single payer system.

I am convinced the average person does not see any health care expense as something they should be responsible to pay. Consider all the goods and services a person buys in a year beyond the very necessities of food, clothing and shelter and then tell me where paying for a doctors office visit lies in the list of priorities.

The fact is when we decide what we cannot afford, health care is near the top of any list ahead of real necessities like going out to eat, a trip to Disney for the family or even a weekly trip to the nail salon (think “The Pill” unaffordable co-pay).

Of course I am not talking about catastrophic level expenses for which we all need insurance, but that is a long way from buying supplemental coverage to pay our 20% coinsurance or mandating an array of services to be “free”. Heck, seniors routinely buy Medi-gap coverage to pay for things they paid for themselves before they had Medicare without any cost-benefit rationale.

Does anyone seriously think that those now free services are not actually affordable to most people if they chose to spend their discretionary dollars that way? Rather, we need to make them free because we know people will always choose to spend their money otherwise even when it is in their best interest to receive the health care.

Think how different and more affordable health care would be if the only coverage available was for hospitalization, medical and surgical care inpatient and fixed dollar benefits for laboratory, x-rays and the like … exactly the way it was when I started working in the health benefits field in 1961.

Zelda Still Rules the Action RPG

Source: Zelda Universe - All the Zelda info you need. | 14 May 2012 | 12:48 am

There has been an influx lately of articles on what Zelda needs to do better or how it should improve. 1Up has sought to change this negativity surrounding Zelda on their recent feature on why Zelda still rules.

Click the jump to see more!

In an 1Up article by Jeremy Parish, Parish talks about while the tool set is standard for each Zelda game, it covers a wide variety of uses. It is because they cover a wide variety of uses, the player can beat a dungeon with just the tools on hand. Although, it takes a high level of creativity process to do so.

Parish raises other excellent points, which you can read here.

You may remember a story we posted a few months back discussing the details on how to enter a contest Nintendo was sponsoring. Users were to submit a photo of themselves via facebook and upon completing their entry, they would be entered to win a Master Sword and Hylian Shield replica. Nintendo’s goal was to receive 25,000 entries, which would be used to create a Zelda themed mosaic that would be displayed at the Nintendo World Store in New York. That mosaic (displayed above) has now been completed using the mug shots of thousands of Nintendo and Zelda fans. Can you spot your portrait hidden in Link’s image?

There is a ray of hope; politicians of both parties announced that later this year there will be a joint Republican-Democrat convention to seek consensus on the most pressing issues facing the country. The photo below shows the organizing committee hard at work.

The history of Nintendo displayed with 30,000 dominoes

Source: Zelda Universe - All the Zelda info you need. | 12 May 2012 | 9:45 pm

It sounds incredibly tedious and ridiculous—to set up over 30,000 dominoes that encapsulate the vast history of Nintendo and then watch them tumble, producing a miraculous display. However, the collaborative work of two YouTube users, Dieckdomino and , has resulted in just that. Incorporating Nintendo memorabilia into the collapsing piece of art, the duo has made this more than just a run of the mill dominoes display; nevertheless, Zelda earned a segment of the presentation and even included a falling Master Sword constructed totally of dominoes.

Take the jump to view the spectacle.

This week in Zelda News: It lives on

Source: Zelda Universe - All the Zelda info you need. | 12 May 2012 | 2:41 pm

Zelda is constantly sparking news stories; whether it’s a rumor pertaining to a new game, an amazing fan art piece, or interesting Zelda article, there is always something to be excited about in Zelda news. YouTube user, BastianTime, has compiled all of the recent Zelda news, rumors, and stories into a weekly segment know as, “This Week in Zelda News.” That name may seem familiar; the creator of the channel is the one and only Bastian, who recently retired from Zelda Universe but continues to do what he does best by bringing us Zelda news from his YouTube channel.

Screw Attack names original Legend of Zelda number one NES game to play

Source: Zelda Universe - All the Zelda info you need. | 11 May 2012 | 11:49 pm

Recently Screw Attack posted a video describing what they thought as the top ten games any person should play on their nostalgic NES console. Beating out games such as Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, Metroid,  the original Legend of Zelda beat out every NES game to come out on top. Screw Attack explains that Zelda changed all NES game by including mass exploration, abundant puzzles, and even a built in battery pack to save your game progress.

Left/Right where the heck is the center?

Source: zeldalegacy.net | 11 May 2012 | 11:42 am

Long time Senator Richard Lugar was defeated in a recent primary in favor of a candidate supported by the Tea Party.  Rush Limbaugh is beside himself with joy.  Granted Sen. Lugar is 80 years old and has been on the job for thrifty five years and since I strongly favor term limits and not congressional careers, he should have retired long ago, but that’s not the point.

Lugar is known for taking a bi-partisan approach in dealing with issues. It seems to me that the last thing this Country needs now is a Congress with its members at the extreme ends of a tug if war with the American people on the abyss of the mud pit in the center of the rope.

I don’t think we are getting anywhere!

During the health care reform debate, Republicans moaned (and rightly so)  about the Democratic-controlled Congress doing pretty much what it wanted and ignoring or belittling any opposing ideas.  However, by throwing out middle of the roaders seeking compromise and results in favor of the far right and their singular point of view, aren’t Republicans hoping to do the same thing for which they attacked Democrats?  Just askin…

If all we have is the extreme left and the extreme right banging heads or worse if we elect a great majority of either party, we are going nowhere.  Well, in fact, we are going somewhere and I doubt we will like it when we arrive.

Her name is Julia and her birth to death government benefits are what you will be voting on come November

Source: zeldalegacy.net | 10 May 2012 | 10:03 pm

The Obama campaign has introduced a cartoon character named Julia to convince Americans of all the government goodies in place and on the way for this young lady (and by implication, you). Of course paying for them and meeting the already created long-term liabilities are not mentioned in Julia’s story.

Here is an excerpt from an opinion piece in the New York Times and the full articles is here.

Her name is Julia, and she has the lead role in an Obama 2012 slide show that follows what’s supposed to be an American everywoman from childhood into retirement, tracking everything the Obama White House’s policies would do for her and everything the “Romney/Ryan” Republicans would not. The list of Obama-bestowed benefits includes Head Start when Julia’s a tyke, tax credits and Pell grants to carry her through college and low-interest loan repayment afterward, guaranteed birth control when she’s a 20-something and government-sponsored loans when she wants to start a business, all of it culminating in a stress-free retirement underwritten by Medicare and Social Security.

There is more at stake than Julia’s promised benefits. The fundamental role of government in our lives and the dependency we place on government provided programs is what really matters. Oh yes, one other little thing also matters … How (and who) will we pay for all these programs?

If you think it’s the other guy who will pay for Julia’s contraceptives, subsidize her loans or child care, I think you are wrong.

HalloweenCostume.Com Hylian Shield Review

Source: | 2 May 2012 | 9:56 am

A representative from HalloweenCostumes.Com reached out to me a while ago and asked if I would do a product review for one of their many Legend of Zelda replica items. They had a wide range of props including swords, full costumes, and shields.

In the end I decided to review their Hylian Shield replica. Overall I was very impressed with the quality. The shield was well built and the paint job was fantastic. My full video review is embedded below.

Let’s Talk WiiU! Part 3

Source: | 25 Apr 2012 | 2:40 pm

With the news that several hit titles will not be heading to WiiU, I wanted to get something off my chest. I will purchase the WiiU for the same reason I purchased the original Wii. That is to play Nintendo games.

The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Metroid and all the great characters that the Big N has created are not available to play any other way, and I’m OK with that. The question is, are you? Let us know in the comments!

Zelda and Pink Hair For Breast Cancer Awareness

Source: | 12 Apr 2012 | 9:11 am

I know we all love Zelda and who doesn’t like breasts? So why not support both by participating in our Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser. This is just a little spur of the moment event that I am putting together for a good cause. The goal of this fundraiser is to collect at least 100 dollars to donate to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

If we manage to reach our goal of 100 a couple of things will happen. First off, I will dye my hair pink to represent and symbolize the pink ribbons that are associated with the cause. I will then post this picture on the site here and across all my social media platforms. Next, one random donatee will get themselves one of the Legend of Zelda Club Nintendo Poster sets for free.

I have set up a donation form here on the page for you to use. The minimum donation amount is set to be 1 dollar. However, feel free to donate as much as you would like. Every tiny bit helps in the fight against breast cancer. If you would like to remain out of this contest but would still like to support the cause then feel free to donate directly on their site!

Read article for donation information.

Miyamoto Wants New Link to the Past

Source: | 12 Apr 2012 | 8:57 am

Zelda creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, has stated that he would like to see a new Legend of Zelda game that uses the same style of A Link to the Past. Originally released on the SNES, Miyamoto has recently been on the record stating that he would like to recreate its 2D visuals into 3D. When Miyamoto was asked if the intention was still there he indicated that perhaps there was other approaches he would like to take.

“I think the answer would be the same if we’re talking about just porting but I think I’d be even more interested in creating something new maybe based on, or starting from, A Link To The Past. I think it’s important to bring some really new software.”

So what do you think? Would you like to see a remake of A Link to the Past or game that is just based off of aLttP? Let us know in the comments.

Zelda Reference in Kid Icarus Uprising

Source: | 31 Mar 2012 | 12:22 pm

zelda in kid icarus

Kid Icarus Uprising was recently released and with it came several cool Easter Eggs. Nintendo games always seem to reference one another in some form or another and this one is no different. In Kid Icarus Uprising there are 2 different Zelda references that have been spotted so far.

The first reference is the chime that is played when solving a puzzle in the Wish Seed Level. After completing a puzzle the chime that plays is similar to the puzzle solving chime from the Zelda series.

The second, and most glaring reference is to Navi of Ocarina of Time. The Fairy Orbitars idol description states, “Tired of pixies asking you to listen?” This is of course referencing the famous and vastly annoying “hey, look, listen” alerts of Navi.

Have you spotted any other Zelda references in Kid Icarus? If so let us know in the comments.

Let’s Talk WiiU!! Part2

Source: | 20 Mar 2012 | 11:05 pm

Virtual Console. Those 2 words made the Wii worth purchasing. I can play a myriad of old-school titles with the click of my Wii remote. Sadly, there have been too few updates with sub-par titles. I feel that Nintendo has all but let the Wii virtual console die. I am OK with that actually. Enter the WiiU eShop, virtual console, whatever they want to call it.

WiiU isn’t going to be able to play our precious Gamecube games so I really want to see some of the biggest hits become available first thing. From Wind Waker to Luigi’s Mansion to Eternal Darkness, I need them all. In addition, I would love to see an easy way to transfer you existing virtual console games. That’s seems like a no brainer, but we know how stubborn the big N can be. How great would it be to play your NES and SNES favorites right there on your WiiU controller? I think that WiiUPad would follow me around the whole house!

What do you want to see with in WiiU Shop Channel? Original content? Videos? Demos of upcoming games? Let us know in the comments and we’ll follow up on this hot topic!

Assassins Creed 3 coming to WiiU. It’s also coming to Xbox360 and PS3. Microsoft has clearly indicated that they are not announcing a new Xbox at this year’s E3, same goes for Sony. This leads me to believe that a lot of the latest and greatest games will be all all 3 platforms. What would you like to see done differently with WiiU versions?

I know we’re in for a surprise at E3. Studios have had WiiU dev kits for a while now, and there’s bound to be some killer ideas headed our way. What would you like to see in Assassins Creed WiiU? Will you be satisfied with just playing the game on a Nintendo console, or do you now expect more given Nintendo’s new controller?

What upcoming WiiU games (that are also on other platforms) are you looking forward to? What are your hopes with the new controller? I’ll keep hoping each day for Bioshock: Infinite. Sound off in the comments!

WiiU: Buttons or no buttons?

Source: | 15 Mar 2012 | 10:55 pm

Let’s talk WiiU! In the first of several short WiiU articles, I’ll write about a topic related to WiiU that’s rattling around in my brain and ask for your comments.

Nintendo has a history of innovation that others then try to copy (Move anyone?). Motion gaming has caught on, and as The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword proved, it works and it works well. My question to you is, will Nintendo go back to button controls with the new WiiU controller? We know that Wii remotes are compatible, but is that going to change the experience?

Personally, I’d love to see The Legend of Zelda with a clear HUD by utilizing the new controller and give my buttons back! Could Nintendo do a dual release of the next Zelda game? One with motion controls, the other, a more classical approach with classic buttons and analog control? Let the wild speculation begin!

Community News: Looking for New Quotes from Twilight Princess through Skyward Sword

Source: Zelda Legends | 2 Feb 2012 | 1:06 pm

It's been eerily quiet since the release of Skyward Sword... other than a few fake rumors here and there and Hyrule Historia scans, there hasn't been much news Zelda-wise.

Anyway, if you scroll all the way down and look on the bottom right of the page, you'll see a quote section. It hasn't been updated since the release of Wind Waker...

If you have any favorite quotes from any Zelda game (even the ones already covered), feel free to post it here in the comments and I'll be sure to add it to the quote list. Quotes from Skyward Sword are welcome as the game has been out for over two months now.

Thanks!

The Legend of Blah Blah: Spoilers of Christmas Past

Source: The Desert Colossus Updates | 15 Dec 2011 | 8:18 am

Why, yes, I was waiting for December just to use this title.  It wasn't because I was otherwise occupied or lazy or didn't think about it until after Thanksgiving.  Nope.  Totally wasn't.

Don't worry, I won't be spoiling Skyward Sword for anyone who hasn't played it.  It would be rather hard to, considering I have yet to play it.  Besides, the game is barely in the past, what with it having been out for almost a month so far.

So hit [Read More] for spoilers that should now be safe for spoiling; if you haven't already played the games yet, then you had several years by now to play them.  These games are fair game, so no complaining.

The Legend of Blah Blah: 6 Old School Aspects That Need to Return

Source: The Desert Colossus Updates | 23 Aug 2011 | 8:43 am

Okay, so, I'm changing Blah Blah's course here.  I didn't really like my last article.  I cobbled together a few notes at the last minute, and then I didn't pretty them up.  I don't want to do that again.  Sort of.  This article was pulled together at the last minute as well, but at least I'm not reimagining the Zelda canon and screwing up what I want to say.  This time around, I'm sticking to my opinions on the Zelda series itself.  And because I've been reading a lot of Cracked.com recently, I'm taking a leaf out of their book.  Click on [Read More] to see what old school aspects of the Zelda series I think they should bring back.

Operation Moonfall: Revive Majora's Mask on the 3DS!

Source: Hyrule.net News | 26 Jul 2011 | 3:56 am

Operation Moonfall, a clever twist on the name of another fan campaign, Operation Rainfall, is a petition meant to spur Nintendo into developing a revamp for [i]Ocarina of Time[/i]'s sequel, [i]The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask[/i].

For all of the fans that loved Majora's Mask as a unique Zelda experience, and think it deserves a revamp just as much (if not more) than Ocarina of Time, you can sign a petition to show Nintendo that there is a demand for it, hopefully giving them the support they need to go through with a project like this. For petitions, it's either go big or go home, so please give your support!

SandCast #3: E3 2011

Source: The Desert Colossus Updates | 29 Jun 2011 | 7:23 pm

That's right, folks! After a few months, a new episode is up! Here, we talk about the awesomeness that was Nintendo's E3 conference, as well as some needed Skyward Sword discussion.

So what are you waiting for? GOGOGOGO!

Also, we have another episode recorded, as well, but editing has still yet to be finished. Rest assured, though, it will be completed soon, so get ready for that. In addition to this, we are planning on having the episodes put onto YouTube for better advertising.

What does this mean for you? Maybe you'll find out if you click on [Read More]. ;)

EDIT: I forgot to mention something: As Shika has subtly pointed out in the comments (harhar), there is quite a lot of echo in the beginning, which is my fault entirely. It doesn't last through the whole thing, fortunately--only through the first twenty minutes or so. Don't let this mar your experience!

The Legend of Blah Blah: The Ritos

New Ocarina of Time 3DS Trailer

Source: Hyrule.net News | 3 May 2011 | 6:42 pm

It doesn't reveal anything new, but it does show a lot more of the game than previous trailers or screenshots. Also, if anyone isn't aware, I believe Ocarina of Time 3DS is going to have a boss rush (You fight all the bosses, one after another) and Master Quest will be packaged with it, but it'll be mirrored, much like how Twilight Princess on Gamecube was.

The Legend of Blah Blah: Gerudic Culture

Source: The Desert Colossus Updates | 22 Feb 2011 | 7:40 am

Oh, dear goddesses, it has been far too long since I wrote an article.  My sincerest apologies.  Let’s get started again with a discussion of the Gerudos’ culture, outlining religion, racial values, leadership, trade items, food, literature/language, music, fashion, history, and symbolism.  But before that, let me make it clear that the following discussion is my own alternate fanon, which I try to keep based in established canon where possible.  Though I will not be going over my version of Gerudo biology again, this discussion will be assuming that there is a three to one female to male ratio among the Gerudo race.  You need not agree with me, but you must be respectful if you leave a comment.  Click on [Read More] when you’re ready.

Zeldathon for the American Diabetes Association

Source: The Sacred Realm | 8 Dec 2010 | 8:00 pm

Back in June a group of US teens hosted a fundraising event, playing a marathon of Zelda games non-stop in order to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event was a school project, and it was a huge success, raising over $3,300. Later this month, the team will be back with another Zeldathon event, this time to support a cause that's close to their heart: diabetes. The team will be raising money for the American Diabetes Association in order to help them fund diabetes research. The event will run for 5 days, beginning on Monday December 27 and will be streamed live over the internet. Viewers will be able to win prizes by donating to the event, as well as interact with the team and other viewers and of course watch the action! The Zeldathon team are a lot of fun, and the last event was very entertaining, so I strongly encourage you to join in, even if it's just for a short time. Here at The Sacred Realm we're going to do our best to help the team, so I'll be providing a live stream of the event right here on the site. Bookmark our Zeldathon page and head back on December 27! I'll try to join in as much as I can myself, and it would be great to see you there!

Belated Birthday

Source: The Sacred Realm | 6 Dec 2010 | 8:00 pm

It's a little late this year, but I would still like to take a moment to note that The Sacred Realm celebrated its 9th birthday a couple of weeks ago, on November 20. I probably say this every year, but in many ways it still feels like it wasn't so long ago that I first started all of this, and yet so much has happened in that time. So many Zelda games have come out since then, I've made so many friends through the online Zelda community, seen many other friendships (even marriages!) come out of it, and in my personal life I'm a long way from where I was back then. The Sacred Realm's 8th year online was a pretty good one, but I can't deny that the 9th year has been lousy. 2010 bombarded me with a series of curveballs that did their utmost to keep me away from this place. I've had some bad times and many things that demanded far more of my time than I would have liked, although I've also done and experienced some wonderful things too. Ironically enough, I now have the time I need to work on the site again, but I now lack something else that's rather necessary in the life of a webmaster - an internet connection at home! That's actually not as big a deal as it sounds though, as I have time to work on the site in my internet-less home and then do the update as soon as I get connected, and fortunately I'm connected almost every day. It reminds me a lot of when I first made the site in 2001, because back then I didn't have the internet on my own computer, so I'd always have to do the work offline and then the actual uploading and updating from the connected computer in the house! Anyway, I'll be getting my own connection very soon, unfortunately I moved into an area which has very limited options so it's taking a while. So while the site's 9th year has kind of sucked, I've got some very exciting things planned for the 10th. I want this year to be special, because 10 is a really special milestone for a website. Although the internet is absolutely everywhere now, just 10 years ago and when I was first running this place I was doing so via a dial-up connection! There aren't a whole ton of websites that are 10 years old or more, and only a handful of Zelda sites. One of the plans I have for the site is to bring it up to date to match the way the internet is now. The way I designed the site is fine for one person to run, but as you have seen this year, if I'm not available to run it, the site all but dies. I'm going to make some changes that will allow me to have other people working here too, and will also allow me to update from almost anywhere, including mobile devices. It's also going to be an exciting time because The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be out next year, bringing a whole new adventure to existing Zelda fans, and hopefully we'll see a fresh new generation of fans introduced to the series. One other sitely thing that I want to mention is that I know I made a post and a couple of tweets about the 2010 fan fiction contest being held soon, unfortunately I have decided to postpone it for the time being. I'm not quite ready to be able to commit to running something that big right now, and because I have a bad habit of biting off more than I can chew, this time I just want to focus on getting back into the swing of things here. Another contest will happen at some point, although it may be mid-2011. Thanks to everyone who's visited this site over the years for your support. Thank you also for your patience this year during the quiet times. I look forward to bringing Zelda goodness to Zelda fans for many more years to come!

3D Computer Animation

Source: Anime Games | 4 Dec 2010 | 5:51 am

3d action or action accomplish use of a 3 dimensional delineation of agreeable that is in geometric anatomy for the acumen of apprehension images that are in two dimensional forms. The acceptance of action may be immense. It may be acclimated in computer clear applications, authoritative 3d action amateur and even action films for the kids. 3d action may aswell be acclimated in accumulated letters and in websites and appropriately because of their three dimensional attributes accomplish a bigger appulse and complete understanding.

The aberration amid the 2d and 3d is not enough. They both use anniversary added to get the adapted effects. For archetype 2d action uses 3d furnishings like lighting and at the aforementioned time, the 3d action uses apprehension techniques that are accomplished in 2d. although there are differences like a 3d action is technically not a clear till the time it is rendered in such a way that visually it attains the ability of 3d. Thus, in adjustment to be accomplished in 3d graphics, one needs to be accomplished in 2d action as well. Bringing characters to action is not as simple as it appears. Although with a able training in beheld furnishings and an all-embracing ability of 2d action and 3d animation, one can calmly create, out of the apple website, architecture products, accomplish amateur that absolutely accord to the next bearing and abundant more. No, I'm not dead! The reason why it's been quiet around here lately is that I've been on vacation in the land of Hyrule. Follow the jump for my holiday snaps... Ok, I'm just kidding! I wasn't really in Hyrule (I know, you're so surprised right?). Those pictures were taken in the grounds of Kencho-ji Temple in Kamakura, Japan. Kamakura is an interesting little town filled with Japanese temples, shrines and a couple of hiking trails. But my inner Zelda geek was delighted to see the Triforce symbol appearing in these gardens, and I just had to share them with you! As much as my imagination tried to sweep me away and pretend that I was indeed walking through some part of the Hyrule Castle gardens, this symbol was in use in Kamakura long before the Zelda games ever came about. It represents the crest of the Hojo clan, a powerful clan in the region from around the 1100's to 1300's. Their crest is called the Mitsu-uroko, but rather than representing Power, Wisdom and Courage, its design is based on something far less glamourous: three fish scales. Anyway, this little post is just to make Zelda fans smile the same way I smile whenever I see a Triforce somewhere unexpected (Fischer sports equipment anyone? Company logos, etc.), and to let you know that I'm not dead and neither is the site. I've just had a very crazy and busy past few months. If you've been coming here for a few years, you may have been expecting that the annual Zelda fan fiction contest would have kicked off by now. Well fear not, it hasn't been forgotten, merely postponed. Stay tuned for an announcement about when it will be happening will be made very soon.

The Legend of Blah Blah: The Culture of Music

Source: The Desert Colossus Updates | 3 Aug 2010 | 12:12 pm

Man, July went by fast.  Really should have gotten a Legend of Blah Blah up, but oh well, I’m here now, so let’s go.  Until the release of Skyward Sword and I have a chance to play it, I’ll be lying aside the biological possibilities of Hyrule and began focusing on its cultural aspects.  Once again, I will point out that this is all merely speculation and fanon; if you don’t agree with it, then be respectful about it.  My goal is to make you all aware of my ideas, not to follow them.  With that out of the way, [Read More] for what I have to say about Hyrule’s culture.

Zeldathon: The Home Straight

Source: The Sacred Realm | 22 Jun 2010 | 3:55 am

There are less than 12 hours left now until the 72-hour long Zeldathon concludes. The guys have been playing various Zelda games for nearly three days straight, while raising money for the American Cancer Society. On top of that, there have been plenty of entertaining moments along the way. If you haven't checked it out, make sure you do so before it's too late, and make a donation because every little bit counts (and there are prizes!). I'll try and pop into the chat again later myself, it's been great to see a few people from this site there, so hope to talk to more of you soon! Follow the jump to watch the action!

Zeldathon for the American Cancer Society

Zelda News from E3

Source: The Desert Colossus Updates | 18 Jun 2010 | 11:02 pm

HNS here, foregoing The Legend of Blah Blah this month to uphold The Desert Colossus's fine tradition of being the last Zelda site to report on Zelda news.  But in case you haven't heard yet, the next Zelda game has been announced for release in 2011.

As Skyward Sword is still in the pre-release stage, everything in the full story should be considered potential spoilers.  [Read More] at your own risk.

No Love for Lefties in Skyward Sword

Source: The Sacred Realm | 16 Jun 2010 | 10:58 pm

For over 20 years, one of the things that set Link apart from other video game heroes was his left-handedness. Many Zelda fans were disappointed that there wasn't a left-handed option in the Wii version of Twilight Princess, and when the newly announced The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword showed a right-handed Link, many fans began to ask if this game would cater for left-handed gamers too. After all, left-handers make up approximately 10% of the population, and I've heard plenty of right-handed gamers say that they'd like to have the option to keep Link left-handed too. According to Nintendo's Eiji Aonuma, the game won't cater for left-handers, and he just hopes that everyone will want to play it right-handed. "It's interesting because people say "all you have to do is switch it." But in reality, it's really hard. You have to change all the models -- you have to make two of everything. So really you're making two complete games, one left-handed version and one right-handed version. We just can't do that. For Twilight Princess, what we did was just create a mirror -- we flipped everything. And if that worked I guess we could do it that way, but again having to create two games is not something we want to do. We just hope that people will play it right-handed." As a left-hander myself, I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed! Read the full interview over at IGN, where Aonuma also talks about the art style, Toon Link and the game's development.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

I've created a page for the newly-unveiled The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. I've posted some information about the game, as well as a bunch of screenshots and official artwork. Keep checking this page for more information, as I'll keep it updated whenever news about the game is announced!

Zelda at E3, 2010!

Source: The Sacred Realm | 15 Jun 2010 | 7:45 pm

The next Zelda game to be released, formerly known as "Zelda Wii", will be called The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword! Skyward Sword makes full use of motion control using the Wii MotionPlus accessory. The sword is controlled by the Wii-mote, and the shield with the nunchuck. Players' movements will be copied by Link with full precision. The MotionPlus will also be used for Link's other items, such as the bow, bombs and whip. Players will need to think more about strategy while they play, as enemies will also try to defend themselves more actively. Graphically, the game is cel-shaded similarly to The Wind Waker, but style-wise the visuals appear more as a painting than a cartoon. Link appears as an adult, similar to his look in Twilight Princess. Skyward Sword will be released next year. Ocarina of Time for Nintendo 3DS One of the big surprises from E3 is the announcement of an Ocarina of Time re-make for Nintendo 3DS. Ever since the original Nintendo DS was released with Super Mario 64, there have been rumours of, or fans asking for, Ocarina of Time to be released onto the console. Since the DS has been around for many years now, it seemed like this would never happen. Therefore this announcement is quite a surprise! The game appears to have had a makeover with smoother visuals. Keep checking back for more! I have loads of Zelda goodies to post from E3, especially concerning Skyward Sword. Unfortunately work beckons before I've had time to finish all of the pages, so keep checking back for all the latest news and media! For now, head over to the discussion board to talk all about this brand new Zelda game!

Nintendo's E3 Conference

It's only a matter of hours now until Nintendo give their keynote presentation at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, which is better known as E3! Nintendo will be streaming their presentation live, ensuring that those of us unable to attend the conference don't miss out on all the action! One of the most eagerly anticipated parts of the conference will be the unveiling of the next Zelda title for the Wii. I've hooked up a stream right here at The Sacred Realm, so you can watch the conference live. It begins at 9am US Pacific Time. View the stream after the jump... Keep checking back here, as I'll keep you updated on all the latest Zelda news from E3!

Alert the Nerds! Next Zelda Game Will Be “Easier”

Source: Zelda Elements | 18 May 2010 | 2:10 pm

Uh oh. In news that is likely to rile up a few Zelda fanboys, Shigeru Miyamoto recently claimed that the next major Zelda game on the Wii, due to be announced next month at E3, will be “Easier”.

German gaming site Gaming Media sat down with Miyamoto for a chat about the upcoming game (1UP translates the major points of the article here), and amongst other things, Miyamoto had this to say.

“We are trying to make Zelda, which has become very complicated, easier to play.”

Oh no! How dare he make our precious Zelda series… easier! Say it can’t be true.

…That’s the kind of comments we’re expecting on this one, but in reality, the quote says very little. He only claims that the game will be easier to play, not to master, if you get what I mean. So let’s not go rallying in front of Nintendo HQ yet, eh? All will be revealed next month at E3.

However, if this news has got your blood boiling, feel free to have a look at the brilliant, but gory fanart, to let off some steam.

(Disclaimer: This post is written in a light-hearted manner, and is intended to offend no-one. If you feel I am being too opinionated and feel the need to write hate-mail about how unprofessional and unjournalistic I’m being in the comment box, have a nice think about the better ways you can spend your time. You could draw a picture. Walk the dog. Even wash the dishes – you know they’ve been piling up!)

3D Dot Game Heroes Out Now

Source: Zelda Elements | 11 May 2010 | 12:46 pm

What is essentially a Zelda clone, the PS3 game 3D Dot Game Heroes is now out in the US, and will hit European shelves on Friday. Reviews are looking good, with GameRankings holding an average score of 82%. So if you like retro Zelda, and want something to pass the time until the announcement of the next game at E3, go ahead and get a copy!

…Or you could get a copy of the old Playstation game, Alundra. I will make more people play this game, darnit!

Zelda Re: Issue Five! - SPECIAL - The Zelda Timeline

Source: The Desert Colossus Updates | 7 May 2010 | 11:47 pm

Well, hehe, it's about time I had another article, isn't it? ^.^; *is trying to avoid KamakaziPlumber's wrath* You can blame my lack of motivation for this, I'm afraid. However, upon a surge of inspiration and that I'm done with my first year of college (whoo-hoo!), I just had to write this.

I'm going to be doing something a little bit differently this time, and since TDC's been in a slump lately, I figure any content would be appreciated, especially if it warrants discussion from all, not just those on the forums (even though more of those would be nice, wink-wink ;) ). No, I'm not doing a review this time (which kinda defeats the purpose of having an "Re:" in the title, huh...? Ah, well. Names that make no sense are cool in their own right, right?). Instead, in case you lazy Web surfers didn't notice, I'm going to be showing my theory of the Zelda timeline.

Intrigued? I didn't think so. Well, just click [Read More] anyway before all the free cookies are gone! ;)

WARNING: There will be spoilers EXCEPT for Spirit Tracks; those of you who are still playing it, do not fret.

An Interesting Take on “The Theme from the Dark World”

Source: Zelda Elements | 5 May 2010 | 10:47 am

While browsing around Reddit this morning, I found this gem hidden within a bunch of comments. This is a real interesting take on the theme from the dark world from A Link to the Past. It wasn’t what I was expecting at all when I clicked on it, but it’s worth a watch!

Next First4Figures Figure: Darunia

Source: Zelda Elements | 4 May 2010 | 5:37 pm

You know First4Figures? The creators of incredible Zelda (and Mario, and Metroid, and Sonic, and…) statuettes? Well, they’ve just released images for their next entry in their Ocarina of Time/Majora’s Mask line, and as always, it’s not an obvious choice (not a bad thing)!

The next figure in the series is Darunia, the leader of the Gorons. Standing proud at 15 inches tall, he looks incredible (as always). First4Figures always pay attention to detail, and this is no exception, right down to the base – it’s the carpet from his room.

If you like the look of him, then he’ll set you back $154.99. As always, it’s limited to 2500 pieces, so don’t leave it too late!

And once more I am going to go through the process of thinking how cool it will look, realising that buying one would be a considerable percentage of my bank account, and then feeling a little bit sad.

The Legend of Blah Blah: The Dekus

Source: The Desert Colossus Updates | 4 May 2010 | 10:34 am

Pardon the break in April.  But I'm back for May, and this month it's time to discuss my least favorite Zelda race, the Dekus.  It's not that I hate them; I just don't find them very impressive.  Maybe I can make them seem marginally more interesting for me while I write this article.  Click on [Read More] to continue.

Link in 3D Dot Game Heroes?

Source: Zelda Elements | 14 Apr 2010 | 6:37 am

That 3D Dot Game Heroes game… looks a bit like Zelda, doesn’t it? Well, it’s about to look even more like Zelda, with the inclusion of Link as a playable character!

Okay, it’s not what you think – the game has a character creator, and one journalist who got an early copy made a surprisingly accurate Link from the original Zelda game. But still, this leads us to believe that this game… looks a lot like Zelda.

You can view the video here. The game’s out May 11th in the US, and May 14th in Europe. I’ll give you a reminder when the time comes, in case any of you want to pick it up. And why not? One of my favourite games is a blatant Zelda rip-off.

Zelda Developers Under Pressure from Dinosaurs!

Source: Zelda Elements | 8 Apr 2010 | 11:38 am

Got your attention now, haven’t I?

Yes, sorry for the lack of updates, but that’s really because of the lack of news. But that will all change in a month or two, with the next major Zelda game being revealed at E3! We can hope to see a slow trickle of tidbits until the floodgates are finally opened at Nintendo’s press conference.

What is today’s tidbit? Nothing too major. Iwata’s been “Asking” again, and this time it’s the turn of the Monster Hunter team. Why am I posting this here? Well, Iwata mentions that the graphics of Monster Hunter Tri are excellent for the Wii, and goes on to say this:

“I think it has placed the Zelda team under a considerable amount of pressure.”

So what does this mean? The Zelda team are trying to push the Wii’s graphical capabilities to its limits, perhaps? This can only be a good thing.

Iwata Asks: Monster Hunter Tri

BS Zelda

Source: The Sacred Realm | 4 Apr 2010 | 7:51 am

Happy Easter, Zelda fans! Unfortunately I can't give you any chocolate through the Internet, but I can give you Zelda goodness! We all know the main Zelda titles, but were you aware that in the 90's, Nintendo produced a satellite modem add-on for the Super Famicom, the Japanese Super Nintendo? The system allowed games, among other things, to be broadcast via satellite, and three Zelda titles were released for the Satellaview: BS The Legend of Zelda, BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets, and BS The Legend of Zelda: Triforce of the Gods. The BS prefix in the titles stands for "Broadcast Satellite". These games were released only in Japan, and could be played only while the games were being broadcast. Each game was released in four parts over four weeks, and players only had an hour to complete each part. Once the games were no longer broadcast, they could never be played again. But due to the wonders of technology and the Internet, the games are being collected, patched and translated into English. I've created the BS Zelda page, which has information about these three titles, including screenshots and even a walkthrough for BS The Legend of Zelda. A very big thank you to Neo for helping me compose this content, including providing the screenshots and writing the walkthrough. Neo is a friend I met through Zelda Wiki, and also works for my affiliate site The Hidden Triforce.

I'll use these pages to post not only site updates but Zelda news and other random Zelda thoughts. In some cases, such as breaking news, I not always able to update the site right away, so these pages will allow me to share it much faster, as it's faster and easier to make a status update than to update the main site, and I can do it from almost anywhere. Then I'd update the main site as soon as I had the chance. They may also come in handy when the site is down, for example if I'm doing maintenance, I'll post status updates. Most of all, I hope these pages, especially the Facebook one, will help bring the community closer together!

A shop that plays Zelda music

Source: The Sacred Realm | 22 Mar 2010 | 7:46 am

You may have noticed that updates here at The Sacred Realm have slowed down over the last couple of months. I apologise that it's been so quiet here lately, it was not my intention, in fact I have a number of things I'm in the middle of working on for the site. However, in early January I took up a work assignment in Japan. I live in an apartment in Tokyo, I get to eat tons of amazing food, I commute every day on the Shinkansen (bullet train) and get to experience the craziness of Japanese culture in general. But before you start getting jealous, I'm also working 16-hour days. And weekends. The work culture in Japan is crazy, and this is the reason why I haven't been able to update the site very often. As my project team hunkers down working such crazy hours trying to meet various requirements such as deadlines and quality, it makes me wonder what it would be like to work on the team at Nintendo of Japan currently developing the next Zelda game. Despite my time in Japan making it hard for me to work on this site, it has given me a couple of things I can use here! On one of my first weekends here, before work got really crazy, I had time to go out exploring, and I'd like to share with my fellow Zelda and gaming fans a shop that is quite possibly one of the most awesome shops I have ever been into. Imagine walking past a store, and hearing Zelda music being piped over the sound system? In Tokyo, there is an area called Akihabara which is famous as a shopping precinct for electronics, including computers and video games. One shop there is called Super Potato, a funny name that doesn't really hint at what the store is about - it's a retro gaming paradise. (Okay, I guess the "super" comes from Super Mario, but potato?!?!). The store itself is a little hard to find, you might walk right past it if you didn't know it was there, unless you were close enough to hear the retro video game music it pipes out, and if you're lucky with your timing, that music might just be Zelda music! The Legend of Blah Blah: The Zoras

Source: The Desert Colossus Updates | 4 Mar 2010 | 11:20 am

So you all can appreciate this month’s article, know that I did research for you.  Not just any research.  Research into the reproductive process of fish.  As I said last issue, this one will be about Zoran biology, and there is great potential for squickiness.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.  To further appreciate this month’s issue, know that the laptop I was typing this one kept on acting like I was typing in commands I wasn’t; paragraphs would start indenting, the Find and Replace feature kept popping up, and once it closed out on me.  Thankfully I had recently saved and didn’t lose much.  Folks, don’t get a Dell.  When you’re ready, click on [Read More] to continue.

Introducing NIWA

Source: The Sacred Realm | 17 Feb 2010 | 5:56 am

If you're looking for a quality resource for information about various Nintendo franchises, then I'd like to present NIWA to you. NIWA stands for Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance, and has been founded by three Nintendo-based Wikis: Super Mario Wiki, Pokemon Wiki Bulbapedia and our very own Zelda Wiki.org. The aim is to provide a hub for high-quality, independently run Nintendo Wikis (as opposed to more commercially driven Wiki ventures), and will expand to encapsulate other Nintendo franchises such as Metroid and Kirby as more Wikis join. Head over to niwanetwork.org to find links to the Nintendo Wikis, as well as the NIWA community forums where you can find out more about the project and chat with other Nintendo fans. If you have an independent Nintendo Wiki of your own (or one that you'd consider moving), or are thinking of starting one up, NIWA is an excellent resource.

The Legend of Blah Blah: The Sheikah

Source: The Desert Colossus Updates | 8 Feb 2010 | 11:47 am

So, I pushed off the Sheikah article to do some fact checking only to find out that, yeah, we know next to nothing about this enigmatic race.  Only two have unarguably been featured in the series, Impa and Sheik from Ocarina of Time, with Impaz from Twilight Princess heavily implied that she is a descendent of the Sheikahs.  Their emblem, the eye and tear, can be seen throughout the series, even before the Sheikah’s official introduction in Ocarina of Time.  Let’s [Read More], shall we?

Community Update

Source: The Sacred Realm | 7 Feb 2010 | 4:30 am

The Sacred Realm has a new affiliate: Zelda in my Pocket. This is a new site that aims to cover all of the portable Zelda titles. They have started with one of the more obscure titles, the spin-off game Color Changing Tingle's Love Balloon Trip that hasn't even been released outside of Japan yet. Make sure you check this site out. Speaking of affiliates, one of our oldest affiliates, Exploding Deku Nut has returned after being on hiatus, with a brand new look and focus. It's great to see this site back online, as with its focus on Zelda-related satire and humour, it's one of the more unique sites in the community. Finally I'd like to apologise for the fact that I haven't updated for a couple of weeks. Work has been taking a lot out of me at the moment as I've been working some pretty crazy hours that leave me little time for anything except for work and sleep. Hopefully this will change soon!

Zelda Confirmed for E3

Source: Zelda Elements | 2 Feb 2010 | 3:30 pm

It seems that, after years of hoping that a glimpse of a new Zelda title at E3, we know for sure that it will turn up this year (and E3’s not for months yet)!

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told his investors in a financial briefing that “We will show the new Zelda title for Wii at E3 this year.” And that sounds pretty definite to me.

Sure, we pretty much knew this already – and even if it wasn’t going to turn up, I think the whole Zelda community would be brandishing pitchforks outside of Nintendo HQ – but now that the shareholders will potentially be part of that mob, I would bet Nintendo are pretty certain that it will turn up. So look forward to a nice Zelda trailer come June. Whether we see the finished product this year remains to be seen.

Iwata is Quizzical Once More

Source: Zelda Elements | 28 Jan 2010 | 7:55 pm

It appears that Iwata is a very confused individual when it comes to Zelda, as once again he is “Asking”. In Mr Boss of Nintendo’s online series, “Iwata Asks”, he has once again given us a very in-depth Zelda interview to chew on.

This time, it’s all about the history of the handheld games, from Link’s Awakening right up to Spirit Tracks. Iwata is grilling Eiji Aonuma, Toshihiko Nagako and Takashi Tezuka, all who have had their hand in the creation of the portable Zelda games at some stage or another. It’s well worth a read, as it has lots of nuggets of information about the games’ development, unseen design sketches for various elements of the earlier Zelda games, and videos of Link’s Awakening that take me right back to my childhood.

Also, Iwata arrives fashionably late. Stylish.

The Manga’s Back!

Source: Zelda Elements | 25 Jan 2010 | 9:11 am

It seems Viz Media won’t be depriving the Zelda fans of manga for too much longer. While they earlier listed their Phantom Hourglass manga as not coming out for a very long time, they have a surpise under their sleeves. They recently listed the next volume in the series, an adaptation of A Link to the Past, which was written to promote the release of GBA port, as coming out on February 2. Which is in a week’s time!

Older Zelda fans should keep in mind that this isn’t the colour, made-for-the-US manga by Shotaro Ishinomori that was serialized in Nintendo Power way back when. So if you’re hoping from a nostalgic read, you’ll be disappointed. However, this version should be a fresh adaptation of the game, so I would give it a chance. This is the oldest game that Akira Himekawa have adapted (despite being one of their more recent works), so fans of the older games may want to check it out.

UPDATE: It appears I got confused and claimed the Minish Cap manga was not coming out for months, when it’s been out since December. I should have said Phantom Hourglass. Many apologies. It’s been a long week. And also, thanks to The Ocarina for alerting me to this.

Nintendo's Eiji Aonuma talks Zelda

Source: The Sacred Realm | 24 Jan 2010 | 3:46 am

Official Nintendo Magazine recently interviewed Nintendo's Eiji Aonuma, director of recent Zelda titles including Spirit Tracks, Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker. They discussed the recently-released Spirit Tracks, as well as the upcoming game nicknamed 'Zelda Wii'. Aonuma discussed development of the game, including the idea of using trains and Zelda's spirit as a character, as well as the fact that after player complaints about repeating the Temple of the Ocean King in Phantom Hourglass, they ensured that this element was removed from Spirit Tracks. He also says that they wanted the game to be released very quickly, and that all of the gameplay apart from the train aspect was only started a year ago. He said that he is very proud of the finished game. The magazine then asked Aonuma about the upcoming title for Wii. As always, he didn't say a whole lot about the game or give clear answers to the questions asked. He did say that some people may think that the game hasn't been in development for very long, but it has been for some time, in fact when development of the game first began, the Wii MotionPlus accessory didn't exist, but when the technology became available it was introduced into the game. Right now, "Link is already reproducing almost perfectly what you do with the Remote and MotionPlus. Our team has already got a very solid response from that aspect of the software." Regarding the gameplay, Aonuma said that himself and Shigeru Miyamoto (the creator of the Zelda series) are concerned that by following the same structure over and over again, they won't be able to provide long-time Zelda players with new surprises. They have been trying something new with the structure of this game, and they hope that people will be surprised. Aonuma was also asked about the graphical style of the game, and about the girl who appeared in the concept art, but he could not answer those questions. Finally, he did say that he hopes that Nintendo will have something ready for the game to show us all at E3 in June this year. I hope they do too!

Spirit Tracks Soundtrack

Source: The Sacred Realm | 23 Jan 2010 | 10:42 am

Zelda games have a reputation for having great soundtracks, and Spirit Tracks is no exception. It's got a fantastic soundtrack that brings the game to life with music that sets the scene perfectly, from the dark moments to the humourous moments. There are also some really catchy tunes that you'll be humming all day. I've uploaded the soundtrack to the game for your listening pleasure! You can download the music after the jump...

Zelda Wii Rumours Abound

Source: The Sacred Realm | 21 Jan 2010 | 9:37 am

Nintendo have been keeping the next installment in the Zelda series, nicknamed "Zelda Wii" quite tightly under wraps. There's not a whole lot we know about the game yet apart from a piece of concept art last year and a few random statements from the big guys at Nintendo. Rumours about games that are still in the works will always pop up from time to time, in fact last year's concept art led to a lot of speculation about the identity of the girl in the picture. I don't always like to post about rumours, but a few about Zelda Wii have cropped up lately. They come from a Japanese website that has a remarkably high track record for their reported rumours about games proving to be fact. Additionally, some of the ideas raised are really interesting, so I thought I'd list these rumours here, and provide my own thoughts because what can I say, I like to talk about Zelda and most of these ideas had me buzzing with ideas of my own! Please note that the below list is rumour only. Do not take these as facts, or even get your hopes up about these ideas. The gameplay will be different from the traditional overworld-dungeon-overworld-dungeon formula. Both Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma from Nintendo have said that the gameplay's going to be changed up, so there's a high chance that this will be true. And it's a good thing, because as I've said many times before, Zelda gameplay has settled into a formula, and it's become stale. It's not that it's a bad forumla, but for people who play a few Zelda games, you don't need to think too hard about what you need to do anymore. Just like in Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks you will be able to select whether you play left- or right-handed, and Link will either be left- or right-handed according to your selection. This is something I really hope is true! For starters, I am left-handed myself, and I didn't like the fact that Twilight Princess on the Wii catered solely to right-handers. From reading various forum discussions on the subject over the years, I know I'm not the only one who felt that way. Secondly, Link by tradition is left-handed himself. It's probably because I'm also a lefty, but it's something I've always felt has made him kind of special. From other forum discussions, I've read right-handed gamers say that Link's left-handedness is very much a part of the character, and that they would like the option to choose purely so they can choose to keep this. So overall I am really hoping that this is a feature that has indeed been added to the game. The gameplay and basic mechanics are complete, and they are currently tidying up the story and the characters. The game is rumoured to be released later this year, so I'd certainly hope that most of the gameplay was complete by now! If they're tweaking or putting the finishing touches on the story, then that's good. It suggests that the game hasn't been rushed. The girl in the concept art is not the Master Sword. Her name is something like Adela or Adele, and she will not accompany Link throughout the whole game like Midna did in Twilight Princess. The picture of her in the concept art is not her final design, it was just concept and she will look different in the game. Now this is interesting! A lot of the speculation about that piece of artwork centered around the fact that Link wasn't holding a sword, and the fact that the girl's physical characteristics suggested that she could be some sort of humanoid manifestation of the Master Sword. But remember that the artwork is only concept art, and it may have just been co-incidence that the girl resembles the sword, or an idea they were playing around with at the time. Both ideas are still both rumour/speculation. As for the fact that she won't accompany Link throughout the entire game, I'm all for it. In more recent Zelda titles, Link's sort of faded into the background, overshadowed by his companions. The ending of Twilight Princess was all about Midna, Link may as well not have been there. As the protagonist and hero of the games, Link needs to have a larger role, and more character development than just being the guy who does all the grunt work. It's time he had his own personality and didn't just stand there while his companions spoke for him. The Master Sword won't be in the game. Link will have a different sword, and it will have unlockable abilities. It also has the power to allow Link to communicate with the girl. Since the game will make use of the Wii Motion Plus accessory, I'm fairly confident that swordplay will have a major role in this game, and it will be a far different experience than traditional games which used buttons to control the sword. So it makes sense to have a new sword with new abilities. Plenty of Zelda games have not had the Master Sword, and while it is the "blade of evil's bane" it typically only features in games where Ganon is the main villain. So does this suggest that Ganon will not be in Zelda Wii? There will be horseback combat. That wouldn't be a big surprise, after Twilight Princess. This would mean that Link's main method of transportation around the land is likely to be horseback (as opposed to say boat or train!). Link in this game may be the Hero of Time, and time travel plays a role in the game. If this is true, it could mean two things: That he is the same Link from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, or a new Link who inherits the title of "Hero of Time". Inheriting the title isn't a big stretch, so it may be a new Link. But in a way, it would be great if this game re-visited the Nintendo 64-era Link. We know that the Link in Zelda Wii is going to be the oldest Link we've had so far, so it's possible. I think it's a great way to expand on the Zelda-verse while shaking up the series' forumla. The world of Zelda has the potential for such a rich history, and there were so many things introduced in the Nintendo 64 era that could easily be built upon. There's a reason why those games, despite being a decade or more old, remain as popular among fans as ever. Twilight Princess was essentially a re-make of Ocarina of Time with prettier graphics, a new Link, new Zelda and new Hyrule, but many fans said that the game felt stale. Revisiting the N64 Link may be a better way to tie in classic Zelda to a new style of Zelda. Shaking up Zelda too much has the risk that a game may no longer feel like Zelda, so adding elements of the familiar will help to avoid this. The game takes place in more then just the land of Hyrule, and may not include Hyrule at all. This sounds like we'll have a new land or country to play in, and may or may not include Hyrule. It may be like Majora's Mask where Link is in Hyrule briefly at the start of the game, and then ends up in a new land. If we are revisiting the Nintendo 64 Link, then the overall layout of Hyrule couldn't change too much (sure, make it bigger and prettier and all that but we'd still essentially know where everything is), so being able to leave Hyrule would give us brand new places to explore. It may also be another realm that we can travel to from Hyrule. I think it would be great if we could still go around Hyrule at the same time, imagine being able to see what's become of the Kokiri, or how the Gerudo changed after Ganondorf was defeated? There is a character in the game who is the son of the inkeeper in Link's village, and he looks up to Link. This one doesn't really excite me or upset me, as it's not that interesting, although this character sounds an awful lot like Colin from Twilight Princess. I hope that he'd play a much different role to Colin. He might even just be a guy who's there at the start of the game or hangs around Link whenever he's in the village, and doesn't play a significant role at all. The models for 3 significant characters in the game have been touched up, but these characters are not Zelda or Ganondorf. This one doesn't say a whole lot. It was translated from Japanese, so maybe some information was lost in translation. Each character in each game has a model, so it could be that any three were touched up recently. Or it could mean that three characters from past games will make a return, and they have received re-designed looks, the same way that Link's design changes from game to game. This also doesn't mean that Zelda and Ganondorf won't be in the game. As I said, remember that all of this is just speculation and rumour. Overall though, I don't really hate any of those ideas. In fact, there are a couple that I'd be very happy to see in the game. Will any of them prove to be true? We'll just have to wait and see! Head over to Legends Place forums to discuss these ideas further!

It provides you with everything you need to know in order to complete the game right from the very start until the final battle with the evil Malladus. I've purposely written it so that it doesn't spoil too much of the game, so even if you play from start to finish while following the guide, you'll still have plenty of surprises especially regarding the story.

Zelda Wii to release this year

Source: The Sacred Realm | 6 Jan 2010 | 2:58 am

Nintendo's president, Satoru Iwata, has given an interview in which he let slip a very exciting piece of information: The next Zelda game for the Wii will be released sometime during 2010. The original interview can be found in Japanese here but a translated summary of the interview says that according to Iwata, the game will be released before the end of the year. We'll probably get our first real look at the game at this year's E3 expo in early June, and while this information from Iwata isn't a confirmed release date, there's also a good chance that Nintendo will use the same strategy they did with Spirit Tracks and reveal the game close to release, unlike Twilight Princess which was unveiled early and suffered delays and possibly even over-hype. Make sure you keep this site bookmarked and keep checking back as we'll be bringing you all of the latest news on this upcoming Zelda game!

Spirit Tracks Walkthrough Updated: Into the Dark Realm

Source: The Sacred Realm | 6 Jan 2010 | 2:31 am

The Sacred Realm's Spirit Tracks Walkthrough has received another daily update. Today I have added the guide for the sixth visit to the Tower of Spirits, which is the final visit, and then the journey to the Dark Realm.

The Legend of Blah Blah: The Minish

Source: The Desert Colossus Updates | 5 Jan 2010 | 9:54 am

I like to type these articles up in Microsoft Word first.  And it never ceases to amuse me that MS Word continuously marks commonly used Zelda terms as incorrect spellings.  Sure, I could just create a dictionary for them, or more simply add them to the existing dictionary, but it just seems like too much effort when I can just call MS Word stupid, which is a lot more fun than adding in new words.  But that has nothing to do with this month’s subject, which isn’t the Sheikah as I promised (the Christmas season in addition to the distractions of Spirit Tracks and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days ruined my desire to do some research, and I want to get an article up early in the month for a change).  Instead, it’ll be about the Minish race, which featured only in The Minish Cap (debatably), so click on [Read More] if you’d like to read my take on that.

ZeldaInformer's look at Zelda's past decade

Source: The Sacred Realm | 2 Jan 2010 | 12:02 am

Yesterday, I posted an article about the past decade in Zelda. Our friends over at ZeldaInformer had a similar idea, and have posted an article about all of the Zelda games released from 2000 until 2009. Article after the jump...

A look at the past decade in Zelda

Source: The Sacred Realm | 1 Jan 2010 | 3:53 am

Happy 2010 Zelda fans! It's always exciting to welcome in a new year, and I think that 2010 will be a good one in the world of Zelda. However, rather than speculate right now about what's going to happen in the coming year (such as the possibility of more information on Zelda Wii...), I'd like to take a moment to look back at the past. For today marks the start of a brand new decade, so before getting into 2010, let's take a look back at what's happened in the world of Zelda over the last ten years. Read more after the jump...

The Hero of Time Movie has finished screening

Source: The Sacred Realm | 1 Jan 2010 | 1:22 am

I hope that everyone who wanted to see independently-made Zelda film The Hero of Time has seen it by now, because I have some rather unfortunate news. The movie is no longer available for viewing. The following statement has been posted by the film's producers, BMB Finishes: "Hey, everyone. We just wanted to let you know that Dec. 31 was the last day that The Hero of Time was available for viewing. We came to an agreement with Nintendo earlier this month to stop distributing the film. In the spirit of the holiday season they were good enough to let us keep the movie up for you to watch and enjoy through the end of 2009, but not past 2009. We understand Nintendo's right to protect its characters and trademarks and understand how in order to keep their property unspoiled by fan's interpretation of the franchise, Nintendo needs to protect itself - even from fan-works with good intentions. "This has been quite an adventure for us and we have a real sense of peace bringing the project to a close. Between the screenings and the online release many of you were able to see the film and we hope to not have only inspired those of you that live, breathe and dream Zelda but we also hope to have inspired all of you aspiring filmmakers out there! Thank you again for all your patience with the project and we hope you had as much fun watching our movie as we did making it. Thanks for all your wonderful messages of encouragement and support! I'm sure our next project will be right around the corner! No, it's not Majora's Mask : )"

'Tis the season for Zelda marathons

Source: The Sacred Realm | 27 Dec 2009 | 7:13 am

Playing Zelda for charity is becoming more and more popular amongst gaming fans who want to use their hobby for a good cause. If you're not familiar with what a Zelda marathon for charity is, a team of people play their way through several Zelda games non-stop over a set period, usually a few days. While playing, they stream their progress live, and have a chatroom open so they can interact with fans, and Zelda fans can interact with each other. Along with the actual gameplay, there's usually other entertainment, and giveaways too. Over the next week, there will be four Zelda marathons running, two starting today and two running over the new year celebrations. Each is raising money for different charities, and all will be screening their events live, while interacting with fans and holding giveaways. These events are always a lot of fun! Please consider helping one or more of these groups out, these are all great causes. Maybe you'd donate $20 to one marathon, but you might consider splitting it amongst the four and donating $5 to each. Regardless, every little bit helps. Then log on and catch some or all of the live feeds. I wish all these groups the best in acheiving their goals and having a blast at the same time! Follow the jump for details on the events...

I've updated the Spirit Tracks Walkthrough so that it now covers the game up to the end of the Snow Temple. More will follow over the next few days; I've already begun writing the next part, based on notes I take while playing the game, and as for the game itself I'm nearly at the end. So continue to check the page, and it won't be long before it is finished!

Spirit Tracks Walkthrough Updated

Source: The Sacred Realm | 24 Dec 2009 | 2:52 am

I'd like to take this chance to wish all Zelda fans a very Merry Christmas, or any other holiday you may celebrate! I'm sure that there's going to be plenty of people unwrapping a brand new copy of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks tomorrow, so I've updated the Spirit Tracks Walkthrough. This guide will give you all you need to get through the game if you get stuck, without spoiling the fun! More updates to it will be coming in very fast.

The Hero of Time Movie Release Update

Source: The Sacred Realm | 22 Dec 2009 | 4:14 am

It's been a week since Zelda fan-made film The Hero of Time was released online, and I know that many people have watched it already. A DVD file of the movie was supposed to be available for download by now, however this is not available at the moment. I've been told that BMB Finishes will make a further announcement about the movie's distribution in the near future. In the meantime, if you haven't already seen the movie, follow the jump to find out where to view it... As always, I'll keep you up-to-date on the latest Hero of Time news when I hear more from BMB, so stay tuned.

Spirit Tracks Name Differences

Source: The Sacred Realm | 13 Dec 2009 | 8:58 am

I've now got my Australian copy of Spirit Tracks. Having played some of the US version already, as well as following the game ever since it was announced, I quickly noticed a couple of differences in the naming of characters and places between the versions. For example, the character Byrne is called Staven, and Aboda Village is called Outset Village (I actually think Outset Village is a nice nod at The Wind Waker; I can imagine the Hero of Winds Link naming the village after his original home, Outset Island, when he and Tetra first settled on the land!). I imagine that these changes will also be present in the European version of the game. What's even more strange is that at least with the Australian release so far, the differences are in the manual (and on the Australian Spirit Tracks website), whereas in the actual game the names reflect the US ones. If you are a European gamer, comment after the jump and let us know which names are used. And if you come across any other differences, comment as well. I've updated the site to reflect the ones I've found so far.

Epic Zelda Marathon

Source: The Sacred Realm | 13 Dec 2009 | 8:32 am

Another charity Zelda marathon will be happening in a couple of weeks. EpicMarathon is a team of friends who will be playing Zelda games non-stop for 72 hours in order to raise money for cancer research. On the 27th of December, at 8pm GMT, the team is going to start playing The Legend of Zelda, and they're not going to stop for 72 hours. They're also planning to play The Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, The Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Link's Crossbow Training. Plus, if they finish early, they'll throw in a couple of other games too. The marathon will be streamed live on the Internet. While one person is actually playing, there'll be a couple of others who will commentate and entertain viewers. Viewers will be able to join in via a live chat, where they can chat with the team as well as each other. And best of all, there will be giveaways! The marathon will benefit the UK-based organisation Cancer Research, with all donations going directly to them. So please consider making a donation, even a small one, because every bit counts. And everyone who donates will be eligible to win a prize! For more information, follow the jump...

Spirit Tracks Walkthrough

Source: The Sacred Realm | 11 Dec 2009 | 8:04 am

By now, the US and Australia have Spirit Tracks, with Europe getting it today. I hope those that are currently playing it are enjoying the game a lot! For those of you who are having difficulty with the game, I've begun work on a Spirit Tracks walkthrough. This guide will give you everything you need to know to beat the game, and I've designed it to be as spoiler-free as possible. I personally hate finding out important twists and elements of the game before I play it (which is sometimes unavoidable while running a Zelda website!), and I know that you enjoy the whole experience a lot more if you don't always know what's going to happen next. Therefore, for each stage, the walkthrough will focus on where you are and what you need to do, and doesn't go into detail about the cutscenes or conversations. So that way, even if you decide to use the walkthrough for the whole game, you'll still enjoy surprises along the way. The guide also focuses on the main quest, and not side quests. Please note that it's currently under construction. I'm going to work on it as hard and as fast as I can until it is completed.

Spirit Tracks is released

Source: The Sacred Realm | 7 Dec 2009 | 8:04 am

Today is an exciting day, because a new Zelda game has arrived! The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is now out in North America. The rest of the world won't have to wait much longer, with the Australian release in 3 days, the European in 4 days, and the Japanese release on the 23rd of December. When you get your hands on the game, head on over to the forums to discuss it in the forum for handheld Zelda games. Also stay tuned, because I'm going to be adding lots of extra information about the game to this site!

Even more fan fiction

Source: The Sacred Realm | 1 Dec 2009 | 8:49 am

I've posted another two new stories in the fan fiction section: Children of the Stars, and The First Meeting of the Heroes. The winners of the fan fiction writing contest will be announced very soon as well, I haven't forgotten! It should be later this week. Also, don't forget, it's now just a week until Spirit Tracks is released in the US, with the rest of the world not far afterwards, and two weeks until the online release of The Hero of Time.

Fan Fiction Update

Source: The Sacred Realm | 27 Nov 2009 | 6:47 am

Twelve brand new stories have been added to the Zelda fan fiction library today. Twelve brand new stories have been added to the Zelda fan fiction library today. The Fields Ignited is an in-depth story about the Gorons, set 30 years before the events in Ocarina of Time. The Gorons' peaceful life is disrupted when they discover dragons living inside the crater near their mountain home. For anyone who is interested in the Goron tribe, this story is highly recommended. Max Heilman II has sent in four new stories that are part of his Tides of Shadow series. This is a series of stories set in an alternate universe, where a fierce war is raging. The new stories are Aftermath, Duel with a Demon, The Syndicate, and The Wolf's Jewel. The Sheikah Way, Part 2, is the second part in a saga about the Sheikah race by well-known author Wizera. If you haven't read the first part, The Sheikah Way you should do so first, and both stories are great reads. Dark Link has captured Link, the Hero of Time, in Critical Point and begins to torture him, when suddenly he realises that he might be falling for his captive. Please note that this story is aimed at mature readers and contains some sexual references. Teenage love is the theme in both Love a Bit and Teenagers, stories by new author OoT Master. In The Kiasha Chronicles, Link tries to return from Termina after the events in Majora's Mask, but the way is blocked. As he sets out to find a new way home, he discovers a new land to save. The Legend of Zelda is the beginning of a story set after the events in Majora's Mask, in which Princess Zelda will have to rescue Link. A Legend Lost is another story beginning about a young girl whose life changes when she is lost in the woods.

Spirit Tracks Australian Release Date

Source: The Sacred Realm | 26 Nov 2009 | 10:27 pm

To my shock, Nintendo of Australia finally woke up to the fact that there is a new Zelda game coming out! Luckily, they're not as slow about releasing Spirit Tracks as they are about informing Australian Nintendo fans of its existence, and the game will be released in Australia on December 10, just three days after the US, and a day before Europe. The game has been rated PG for having 'mild violence', which I find a little amusing since I wouldn't have expected it to have been any worse than the G-rated Phantom Hourglass. In fact, this makes Spirit Tracks only the second Zelda game to not have a G rating in Australia (the other being the M-rated Twilight Princess).

Community Update

Source: The Sacred Realm | 25 Nov 2009 | 7:35 am

I'd like to announce that The Sacred Realm's newest affiliate is ZeldaInformer! Much as their name suggests, ZeldaInformer keeps fans up to date and informed about all of the latest Zelda news. However, their speciality is their articles. At the moment, they're producing at least one article a day up until The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is released. So make sure you check them out! I'd also like to congratulate our affiliate Legend of Zelda.com who celebrated their 10th anniversary a few days ago. This puts them amongst only a handful of Zelda sites to reach the double-digit milestone. Zelda Eternity recently turned 1, a great achievement in itself. Exploding Deku Nut, one of our long-time affiliates, are celebrating their 7th birthday today. With our 8th birthday just 5 days ago, it seems that November is the time for making Zelda sites!

Spirit Tracks Roundup

Source: The Sacred Realm | 24 Nov 2009 | 8:07 am

I've been busy over the last few days, and as usual a truckload of new information about Spirit Tracks has emerged. I've updated the official artwork page with several new pictures, as well as the characters page. It has also been revealed that the game will contain a multiplayer feature. There are two multiplayer modes, tag mode and battle mode. In tag mode, players who have their own copy of the game can swap items and trade treasures. In battle mode, players compete to collect the most Force Gems. Only one player needs a copy of the game for battle mode. There are also loads of previews of the game. Obviously, most of these will contain spoilers, so I'll link to a few here and it's up to you if you'd like to take a look! Links after the jump...

The Sacred Realm turns 8 Today!

Source: The Sacred Realm | 20 Nov 2009 | 4:27 am

Today marks 8 years since this site was launched on Geocities (Yahoo closed down Geocities recently, which made me a little sad) under the name The Legend of Zelda: Lysia's Website. In those 8 years, it has grown from being just another little Zelda site among many into one of the largest and longest-running Zelda fan sites online. This past year in particular has been a great one for the site. Both the site and forums received much-needed makeovers, and it's been a good year for Zelda news, after a quiet 2008. The Sacred Realm also became a mastermind on ZeldaWiki this year, so that we can help to provide a great encyclopedia full of up-to-date information on Zelda. On this day back in 2001, I didn't really imagine where the site would be in 8 years. I imagined 2 years, and even 5 years, but 8 years was almost an unimagineable length of time back when celebrating a year of being online was a huge milestone. I'm extremely happy that I've been able to share my love of the Zelda series with other fans for so long. I joined the Zelda community because no-one I knew offline was as obsessed with Zelda as I was, and I made this website because I like making things and sharing them with people. (In the early 90's I was writing Zelda stories and drawing Zelda pictures to share with my sister and my best friend, so I guess it was only natural that eventually I'd make a website so I could share Zelda stuff with my fellow Zelda fans all over the world!) The site started off as, and largely still is, all of the things I wanted to see together on one site. I'd like to take the opportunity to say thank you to the many people who have helped and supported me over the last 8 years. This site wouldn't have grown into what it is now without your help and support. So a big thank you to my staff members, including forum staff, both past and present. Thank you to my affiliates, again both past and present for your support and advice. To my friends, for your encouragement. And most of all to you, who are reading this, because even if this is the first time you have ever visited this site, I hope you will enjoy it. After all, it's not quite as fun having a website if no-one will visit it! So I am grateful to everyone who visits. I think that The Sacred Realm's 9th year online will be a big one. Plenty of exciting things are coming up in the world of Zelda, so there's going to be plenty of news, and that means the fandom is only going to grow and grow! I hope you will continue to stop by The Sacred Realm over the coming year, and even years, as this is a site for you, the Zelda fan!

Spirit Tracks: Fans' Questions Answered

Special Timeline Article

Source: The Sacred Realm | 16 Nov 2009 | 6:55 am

For many Zelda fans, the timeline is an important part of the series, maybe more so because there's no one, definitive timeline. If you're interested in the timeine in any way at all, then the following article is a must-read. This has been written by The Missing Link, founder of ZeldaBlog and former webmaster of The Grand Adventures, sites of the past that some of you may remember fondly. The Missing Link also judges the fan fiction contest run by this site. Not only is this a very detailed and well-written article, it has been written with the unique perspective that comes from someone who is both a game developer and a fan himself. For those of you who think that the developers can save the timeline anytime they wish, you might be in for a surprise! Read the article after the jump...

Someone who's got a preview copy of Spirit Tracks has put the introduction to this game up on YouTube. If you're trying to avoid all spoilers before playing the game yourself, best not watch, but it's not super-spoilerific because it's the very first thing you'll see when you play the game anyway. The Legend of Zelda Second Quest Speedrun

Source: The Sacred Realm | 10 Nov 2009 | 7:38 am

For those of you who aren't familiar with what speedrunning is, it's when a gamer tries to complete a video game from start to finish in the shortest time possible. In order to do this, they must practice, practice, practice, and become intimate with not only the game itself, but any little trick or shortcut they can find to use to their advantage. Ross Miller from www.originalnintendo.net has completed the second quest of the original Legend of Zelda in an impressive 38 minutes and 19 seconds. According to Speed Demos Archive, the current record for the second quest is 44 minutes, 43 seconds, so it seems that Ross has well and truly beaten this! This video is impressive watching, and may also prove helpful for anyone struggling to complete this quest. For those of you who know a bit about speedrunning this game, Ross doesn't use the UP + A technique (which is used to quickly return to the start screen if this screen is closer to the next area/level than the current location). Spirit Tracks Update: Euro box art, new info

Source: The Sacred Realm | 28 Oct 2009 | 12:00 am

The box art for the European version of Spirit Tracks has been unveiled. Additionally, Kit Ellis from Nintendo of America has revealed that the game will take place about a century after Phantom Hourglass, and that the Link in this game is a new Link. Since the Phantom from Phantom Hourglass is making a comeback, albeit as a friend not a foe, it will be interesting to see if the story in this game will have any connection to Phantom Hourglass and The Wind Waker. Is the land in this game the new land that Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass Link and Tetra set sail to find for all those years ago? You'll also be able to customise the train in Spirit Tracks, similar to the boat in Phantom Hourglass, and at some point in the game you'll gain the ability to lay down your own train tracks. I'm really excited to hear the latter, because one of my favourite things about Zelda is exploring the overworld, and I was worried that the overworld would simply rush by as Link takes the train from A to B. So it's nice to know that if I see some little area that I want to explore, I should be able to create a track to get there! Finally, for the Zelda collectors out there, Prima Games will be releasing a collector's edition of their strategy guide for this game. Similar to the guides that they released for Twilight Princess and Phantom Hourglass, it will be a hardcover edition with foil detail, and a collectable world map on parchment paper. Europeans who pre-order the game will also get collectable figures of Link and the Phantom. You can view the box art after the jump...

Spirit Tracks European Release Date

Source: The Sacred Realm | 3 Oct 2009 | 12:00 am

Being Australian, ever since the US release date for The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks was announced, I've been eagerly awaiting the European release date. It's finally here, and the good news is that it will be released on December 11, 2009, only 4 days after the US. The Australian release date is usually the same as the European date, or within a day, but if a different date is announced for Australia, I'll be sure to let you know.

Fan Fiction

Source: The Sacred Realm | 30 Sep 2009 | 12:00 am

I've added nine new stories to the fan fiction library tonight. They are all short stories. Requiem of Sanity: The Story of Ganondorf Dragmire is a story about Ganondorf's origins, and the role the witches Koume and Kotake played in his upbringing. In A New Beginning, Link and Zelda are killed... only instead of dying, Link finds he's been sent back seven years into the past. Elf Princess has written two new stories to follow on from Rainbow Haven. While Rupee Collector, After Twilight Princess, Link, Zelda and a Special Guest go to Fifth Grade and Sage's True Power are all script-style stories with more random elements. Finally, the The Exiled Prince is a story about the Zora people, set long after Ocarina of Time when Ganondorf returns to Hyrule.

The Hero of Time Movie Reviewed - Spoiler Free!

Source: The Sacred Realm | 26 Sep 2009 | 12:00 am

The long-awaited independent Zelda movie The Hero of Time premiered in June, has had a couple of public screenings since then, and it's only a matter of time before it becomes available online to everyone worldwide. Therefore, it is time that a review of the movie is done. For those who have not seen the movie yet, this review does not contain any spoilers, so you do not need to worry about anything being given away. Zelda fans have long viewed the idea of a movie based on the series with a mixture of excitement and trepidation, wondering if it is possible to successfully adapt the beloved video game series onto the big screen. Nintendo won't give the go-ahead for an official movie, but a few years ago a group called BMB Finishes announced that they were making an independent Zelda movie called The Hero of Time. When the first trailer for this movie was released in early 2006, it sparked heated discussion among Zelda fans, some loving the fact that Zelda was being brought to the big screen, while others didn't like the look of the film one bit. And while The Hero of Time is not the only Zelda fan-film to have been made, it remains as the most high-profile of them all. Regardless of whether they loved or hated the idea of it, many fans closely followed the progress of this movie. After several years, the movie is now complete, and the wait has been worth it. Nope, not gone, just been very very busy

Source: Midnight Castle's Legends of Zelda | 30 Mar 2008 | 7:27 pm

I feel that I REALLY REALLY must apologize to all of my faithful followers. However, I have been very very busy with something.

Let's put it this way, Zelda has become second in my life and I've found a much more significant gaming passion. Etrian Odyssey! Yep, it even beat out my love for Kingdom Hearts! Actually, I've really just fallen head over hills for any Atlus game or anything that just plays out of the norm.

Well, anyways, back in October I decided to go ahead and start trying to put my energy in creating an Etrian Odyssey site. And then when school and classes started back up, I decided to try to submit it for my class assignment - and it was approved. So, I've had more than one reason to try to get this site going and off the ground. Because of that, I decided to put MCLoZ aside and focus on just this new site.

Last week it finally launched!!

Into the Labyrinth

PLEASE be sure to check it out. And while I'm still going to be focusing intently on it, next month classes are over and I'll get my final grade on the assignment. Which means, FINALLY, I'll be able to put my energy into dividing my time between both this new site and MCLoZ. But, I'll be honest and abrupt with everyone. ItL is now my main priority. The Zelda franchise has become just too big and expanse and repetitive to keep my interest. However, ItL only consists of two games and does not require near as much content as Zelda games - thus, I will have plenty of extra time to divide between both games.

Still... the new game is released June 17th. And then I'm not really sure how things will go. Haha.

Still... MCLoZ is NOT dead. Far from it. Work will hopefuly recommence ASAP.

Return of the PH Mp3 Files in Player!

Source: Midnight Castle's Legends of Zelda | 22 Nov 2007 | 7:14 pm

I have updated and returned the Phantom Hourglass files which went offline after their previous host fell through. Sorry about the wait, guys. My deepest apologies. ^_^ Please enjoy them once again all to your liking.

Also HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!! @_@ Personally, I'm still zonked out in turkey-coma. *Yawn*

I got my PH feather stylus pen!

Source: Midnight Castle's Legends of Zelda | 13 Nov 2007 | 9:24 pm

Yes, I'm alive. Sorry. Busy with school... NaNoWriMo.... and a side project... oh and the fact that I'm enjoying a new game called Disgaea (the first one). T-T I know, I'm an aweful webmaster right now!!

HOWEVER - I bring you some news that I really enjoyed. :3 My PH-inspired Feather Stylus arrived today. XD It's so ADORABLE!

The case is brown with an image of Ceila on it, slide it off and open a simple white cardboard pen-box and there lieing in some plushy-foam cut to its shape, is a white, clear, almost glass-looking (but it's cheap plastic) stylus in the shape of a quill pen! :3 I LOVE IT! <3 <3 <3 *Runs off to play PH just so she can play with the stylus* Dear God, I'm such a geek.

On that note... what's even more geekish. I'm standing there at work today and a guy is washing dishes at the sink near me. I'm standing there taking orders when I realize I'm hearing him humming and am recognizing the tunes. I dunno what's more geekish - that he was humming Zelda tunes and other tunes from several other games or that I was able to recognize each and every single one of them that he was humming. *Sigh* Too bad the guy's a jerk and not even a mutual gaming interest will get me to chat with him.

European PH Flash Site Launches

Source: Midnight Castle's Legends of Zelda | 18 Oct 2007 | 7:55 am

Either yesterday or today (since I didn't check yesterday) the European Phantom Hourglass site FINALLY opened. Up until now it just had a pathetic placeholder. Even if you already have the game, this site looks like it might be worth looking into as like many past American Zelda Flash sites, this one requires that you collect items around the pages to unlock secrets. I haven't done it myself yet but if I find anything new and nice, I'll definitely add it up to the site.

^_^ And remember, Phantom Hourglass will be released as of tomorrow in the UK. Good luck, guys! I personally can't wait for Archaic Sage of Rauru's Return to get his copy. I'm dieing to play a game against him!

Here's some comic fun and rant

Source: Midnight Castle's Legends of Zelda | 15 Oct 2007 | 8:39 pm

First, the main gist of this post: Phantom Hourglass on VGCats.

Quick comments: Love the comment, but honestly, Ciela wasn't a bad fairy (I loved her) and neither were *cough* oh wait... that's spoilers, sorry.

Ok, now, the second half which was originally going to be a prologue, but didn't want to bore you guys into insensibility. *Cough* Here we go.

I do NOT read Penny-Arcade or VGCats. P-A's art, storyline, jokes, and personality does not sit well with me. I have a better tolerance for VGCats, but let's be honest, it's P-A only with cat characters and more focus on games instead of game industry. That being said, I do not hate them or will turn others away from them. Each to their own. I just feel that P-A throws out too many humping and balls jokes while VGCats tends to enjoy the other end of the things and throws out more butt and pooing jokes.

On that note, if there are comics that I like to read that they do, nearly all of their Kingdom Hearts and Zelda comics have been very good. Show me those comics and I'll tell you that 95% of the time, they did it right.

No, I don't have a problem with nudity. :P Actually, despite my devote love of my HP Laptop, I'm a fan of Apple Geeks, and I think Hawk has been nude more times than P-A and VGCats combined. However, the jokes are far more tasteful and/or LESS FREQUENT.

Further, there are a few views that P-A has expressed that I don't necessarily agree with. That's me and I won't mention them whatsoever, because let's face it, I view too many of my own opinions, too, that I'm sure others don't care for.

That being said, they do two things that I can't, draw and tell jokes. They have my respect for attempting both and having continued it on such a prolonged basis. So, no I don't turn others away, but they just aren't my cup of tea. So, before you hand me another random link to either of them, please note: I have seen all comics on both sites, and no, I don't care for them and probably won't click the link. And while I might not view the comics everyday, I check in once in a while because at the very least P-A is on top of the current events in the gaming industry and the players.

Phantom Hourglass Updates

Source: Midnight Castle's Legends of Zelda | 13 Oct 2007 | 1:32 am

Biggoron's Quiz Answers and Locations for the Spirit Gems of Power have been added up to the Phantom Hourglass section. God, I'm so tired. Why am I still up? I'm going to bed now and no one had better stop me!

Oh, btw, I'm planning on playing a LOT of multiplayer Phantom Hourglass tomorrow in case someone is interested in playing me. I can't promise that nothing will come up in my life, but that's the plan currently.

My Buddy Code:
0473 - 5686 - 1426

Though, nothing's going to happen if I don't get to bed RIGHT NOW. *Yawn* ......

Oh, yeah, and btw, I did beat the game about two days ago. My ranking for the game, it beat out Twilight Princess for third place after Link to the Past and The Wind Waker. :3 I really love this game!

Today's Mission Statement and Rant

Source: Midnight Castle's Legends of Zelda | 5 Oct 2007 | 7:51 am

I'm going to revamp the Multiplayer page at some point today as I know I put it up quickly in a half-maffed sorta way. Now, allow me to please go on a rant. I have sat here for the last hour playing the multiplayer on PH. >_< I am getting rather cross as every single player I have come up against has gotten mad at me for extorting their faults and subsequently left by the second round. I'm not even that good of a player! However, when you are stupid enough to leave your phantoms only on one side of my base, OF COURSE I can run around you and still dump in Force Gems - or if you have my base under lock and key, I will spend my entire round gathering up ALL of the Force Gems into a pile near my base and then during your turn safe-guard them without even worrying about putting Phantsom near your base.

Consider it a teaching lesson, kids. And not that I don't get my own butt handed to me from time to time. ^_^ Not to mention I was taught a very creative way to play the game from this one kid somewhere in the world with his name writting in Japanese lettering (so I'm going to take a stab that he's either Otaku or really is Japanese). We spend the better part of two hours playing at least three games, all of which he smeared me 40+ to my 0. :3 The kid was good and I enjoyed playing with him. He had no record of winning or losing pior to me, so I'm going to guess he was having the same problem I'm having. It was exciting to lose and to be taught the errors in my ways. I still would love to play against him and try to figure out the strategy for defeating him!

Isn't that what a Zelda game is about? Figuring out the strategy on how to beat someone. COME ON! Keep the match going and FIGURE OUT HOW TO PLAY!! Do NOT go for easy wins - that just makes you into a loser in the end.

*Sigh* :\ I need a buddy to play against, I think. I'm tired of these kids walking away from matches. Poor Rissa complains that she is having a similar problem, too.

And don't tell me to stop playing and go easy. That's no fun. You guys figure out how to play so that way neither of us have to go easy on each other.

Promotional PH-Feather Stylus Offer

Source: Midnight Castle's Legends of Zelda | 4 Oct 2007 | 8:43 pm

This is rather a quick little post that I am doing and it is a very limited time offer and it seems to be flying under the radar somehow.

Remember WAY BACK when, when they said that if you pre-order your game you would get a kewl Feather Stylus in honor of the game? Didn't happen, did it? HOWEVER, YOU CAN STILL GET THE STYLUS!!

How?

Registers your Phantom Hourglass game AND your DS System over at Nintendo.com - after you have opened an account (so worth it, trust me). Make sure to give a proper e-mail and mailing address.

Then you will or should receive an e-mail from the site explaining the promotion offer. Click the link and fill out a quick and absolutely painless survey.

VOILA! You will receive a Feather Stylus!!

:3 I can't wait to get mine!! I'm so psyched!!

Thanks go old staff member and long time MCLoZ Fan, TheEighthSage for telling me about this! I hope you get yours, too!

Phantom Hourglass first updates!

Source: Midnight Castle's Legends of Zelda | 3 Oct 2007 | 5:40 am

The Instruction Booklet story for Phantom Hourglass has been added. I also put up a quick tips and tricks guide for the Multiplayer Game! The game so far is drool-tastic and both me and my sister REALLY enjoy the multiplayer version. It's simple yet fun - and if you get the right player, it can be quite challenging. :3 I was afraid that the game would get quite annoying if/when players start clouding your zone, however, if you read my guide you will learn that this is the WORST possible thing to do.

I think so far the game has become quite annoying in that the players tend to leave when they are losing! And typically because they obviously get offended when I start throwing their Force Gems out of their base and into the free zone. ... Ok, yes, I have no pride, but seriously - I can't even throw them that far if you are using your Phantoms properly and are NOT clouding my base with all three and are using a proper strategy. You have to make sure to keep on Phantom at your base to prevent thievery. And what's more, I have become quite savvy in throwing Force Gems and running a circle around a chasing Phantom and picking up that Force Gem and going on my way. It is BY FAR easier and better to go after the smaller Force Gems when the situations get sticky.

The stupidity of the players can be appauling at times and I hope I can make at least some sort of dent in solving this problem. At this point, I'm just anxiously awaiting a friend to send me their code so we can have a decent game together. Still, every once in a while you find a gem of a player. And slowly my score is going up - when players don't shut off their games mid-match, so when I press the Rival button I will soon be matched up to some more decent.

Phantom Hourglass released for DS

Source: Midnight Castle's Legends of Zelda | 30 Sep 2007 | 11:10 pm

Today Phantom Hourglass has officially released for America! Be sure to head to your local game stores to pick up your copy today. Special note for those who have pre-ordered from Gamestop, EBGames, or online. Beware! The game might just be shipped today which means you will not be able to get your copies until tomorrow after 12am! It all really depends on your store. Call ahead before you make a special trip or start panicing if you did not get your phone call! (I'm use to this happening by now as I frequently pre-order from Gamestop. Sometimes I get it release day, sometimes I don't.)

Today's Updates: *Drumroll* :3 Yes! I have updates for you! Some of you might have already noticed that I've updated the roll over images for Phantom Hourglass. I've also updated the intro page image and the intro page's description.

Oh! But wait! That's not the only update and these are very trivial. XD Check the bottom of the list for the Mp3 Player to see a list of tracks for Phantom Hourglass!! These are currently unnamed as they had Japanese names when I downloaded the pack from a torrent. I will post up my own names after I've played the game. AND! You might just notice that there is a new wallpaper up for the player *cough*. VIVA LA PHANTOM HOURGLASS!!
